"Cruiser and 3 Destroyers Sunk by Allies in Solomons"The actual score was only the light cruiser Jintsu sunk on the Japanese side. On the allied side, Destroyer USS Gwin sunk, cruisers USS Honolulu, USS St. Louis and HMNZS Leander crippled and out of action for months.
By this point in the war the US Navy had figured out how bad their torpedoes were and were taking steps to correct the problems but they still hadn't figured out the capabilities of the Japanese Long Lance torpedo or the fact that the Japanese could reload their torpedo tubes from spares carried on deck during a naval engagement.

“Manstein is upset as he believes that he could still achieve victory. (Glenn A. Steinberg)”
Von Manstein was the best General in the war on either side, but I don't understand this boast? Is Manstein saying he could have taken Moscow and ended the war?
