Perhaps you will say that my health insurance is cheap compared to its obligations. Then let's have that debate publicly instead of the discussion of how I am a public leach sponging off of everybody else's hard work and sweat.

Meh, Limbaugh’s been a fool for years. Haven’t listened to him in a VERY long time. Just another “news entertainment” clown.

Medicare is a financially untenable program run by an inept, corrupt government. For services rendered it is a stingy as you can get.

It’s not a question of whether you are a bad person, it’s a question of whether Medicare is a good program. By the way, you didn’t personally design Medicare did you?

How many FReepers pay $1,200 a year for their medical insurance?

Haven't had to pay for health insurance out in the market lately, have you? I pay twice that and I have a company that provides reasonably priced coverage.

I've been listening to Rush since 1989 and haven't heard him call Medicare recipients 'leeches' but I may have missed it as I can't listen 15 hours a week.

I'm also a Medicare recipient and wish I weren't. I had good coverage with Blue Shield for a reasonable cost but was forced to take Medicare because Blue Shield drops you at 65, so it's Medicare or nothing. Although I'm healthy with no chronic medical conditions, it would be foolish not to take the Medicare coverage, such as it is. However, because I have little choice in the matter, I certainly don't consider myself a 'leech'. The Medicare coverage isn't free and I have no say in the premiums.

If Rush uses that term and means it, he is badly misinformed, which I doubt. Of course when you make 40 million or so every year like Rush does - and I don't begrudge it to him - it's going to be hard to relate to someone who has to take the government medical insurance or have nothing. That may be the crux of the problem if Limbaugh actually refers to Medicare recipients as 'leeches'.

“How many FReepers pay $1,200 a year for their medical insurance?”

Are you really that disconnected with reality? Even when employers pay for some of the medical insurance costs, many families pay that EACH MONTH.

I have been on Medicare for 15 years. My Medicare Part B presently costs me a little pocket change short of $100 a month - a little less that $1,200 a year. That money is deducted out of my Social Security check before I ever receive it. That benefit offers to pay 80% of my allowable medical bills, and I am responsible for the other 20%.

Your Medicare Part B premiums only cover 25% of the actual costs. By law, the remaining 75% comes from General Revenues. This represents a subsidy by current taxpayers.

Out of MY paycheck comes SS and Medicare taxes.
I get nothing now nor will I get anything later for it.
People who did not earn my money take it.

I pay property taxes for garbage built years ago when YOU floated bonds because you didn’t want to pay for it.
I’m stuck paying for retired municipal employees who milked the system that YOU supported for years.
Our most-deserving uniformed military are awarded a bare pittance compared to what they have EARNED!

Whatever you pay now for your “insurance” is not enough. You are receiving welfare. Face it, accept it and ST*U about it, except to say thank you.

Sick to death of greedy geezers complaining. YOU ARE THE REASON for most of the current problems.

Go ahead and flame. You’ve been blowing hot gas for years.

There is no Article 1 Sec 8 power for the FedGov to be running the program you are currently using.

As such, yes... You are a leach. Period. Not the nicest term, certainly, but you are receiving a benefit from an illegitimate source.

Regardless of what you are paying in, receiving out, personal need, etc...

Sorry, but that’s reality. It exists, it isn’t supposed to, and people like you will be used as counters by feckless politicians wanting to keep that ill-gotten power for themselves.

As you must be aware, the Medicare premiums that you and other beneficiaries pay -- including my mother -- do not come close to covering the costs of the program. You (and my sainted mother) are not leeches, but you are benefitting from a program that is even more fiscally unsustainable than Social Security and that puts the country's public finances and economy in jeopardy.

As described in a Cato Institute paper, in 2011, "Americans paid $274 billion in Medicare taxes and premiums. At the same time, the program paid out $564 billion in benefits. That amounts to a shortfall of roughly $290 billion. Looking into the future, even the most optimistic estimate by the program’s trustees puts Medicare’s future unfunded liabilities at more than $38.6 trillion. More realistic projections suggest the shortfall could easily top $90 trillion."

I’ll start taking him seriously again once he gets tried, convicted and sent up the river like all of the other people who abuse drugs (which he called for in 1993) instead of crying about political persecution when the drug war came for him.

You completely misunderstood what he said. He was describing the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988, the only entitlement he could think of that was ever repealed.

Yeah, Rush is out of touch, but you’re paying pennies on your health insurance and most Medicare recipients now are taking several times out of the system more than they paid into it.

“How many FReepers pay $1,200...”

I wish. Summing it up for my family of three, our insurance, including a lousy dental plan, a lousy vision plan, (nothing like what you get with Medicare,) and an additional plan with Colonial to cover lost wages, the bill comes to $9206.40, and that is only 40 percent of the cost. The employer pays an additional 60 percent that is deducted in the form of lower wages. But that isn’t all. Medicare takes out an additional $640.38 per year and the employer pays the same, coming out of wages. We also have $30 dollar copay, and a $300 dollar copay for labs, not to mention other things we still have to pay. I’d say you are doing pretty good.

You complain about paying 1200 a year????? I pay over $12,000 a year for my family of four, and that’s before making a $2500 deductible before my insurer pays DIME ONE on a claim.

Then there’s the medications that they DO NOT COVER that I also pay for out of pocket that don’t count against my deductible.

Yes, you are a whining little mooches in my eyes, you should stfu and stop bitching, leech.
