Superficial. This is a better plane that the F-15, or the F-16, by far. And with advanced radars and fire control it has proven to be a formidable aircraft.

Russia will sell heaps, orders are flowing in.

I would advice you to study military history. During WWII Russian T-34 tanks was simple but way better than US Shermans and German Panzers. Their fighters (after 1943)was superior killing machines that was feared by German pilots. AK-47 is more reliable and way better than M-16( my personal combat experience).Never underestimate your opponent.

I love to watch this type of performance...but the poor photography skills kept me from enjoying it. Zooming in too close, losing the aircraft in the sky, jittery view...I guess I’m getting too cranky. I had to turn it off. Maybe I’ll enjoy it more when my Big Gulp has worn off (sorry NYC. Heh heh). Thanks for posting it even though I’m a whiner.

The F-22 is a better plane in every single metric that matters. The Raptor is by far stealthier in botj RCS and infrared, has a better radar and avionics suite, is almost as maneuverable as the SU35 at subsonic speed and is far more maneuverable than the SU35 at supersonic speeds (where it really counts), can supercruise with a full weapons payload (while the SU35 can only do low level supercruise with a bare A2A load out),can go higher etc. In essence, the Raptor is a better plane in every way.

Please note that the Raptor was conceptualized to duel with future Soviet super fighters, that with the collapse of the USSR are only starting to come out now with the SU35 being the lower end and the PakFa the upper end. The Raptor was meant to match and defeat them.

In a nutshell the Raptor is better than anything currently flying operationally. That includes the SU35, as well as the J20, J31, and PakFa stealth fighters. The only problem with the Raptor is there are not enough of them.

You're partially right!!! German tanks were superior to Sherman's but were just simply to complicated for battle situations, T-34 was a superior tank. Russians had nothing comparable to the P-51 with the Merlin engine. The Mig-15 was a good fighter but fell way short of the F-85!!! The Russians have the same problem now they have always had. Their engines are to big and guzzle to much gas, hence the huge air intakes. F-22 has super cruise which means they can engage at high speed and stay at high speed, unless the Ruskies have stolen that technology as well they can't. It is just as important to not OVER estimate your opponent!!!

History shows ( over and over) if you are NOT over estimate your opponent you may face cruel reality. We only can guess what hidden in the closets.:-))
p.s.re; mig-15 vs. f-85. migs needed way less maintenance than f-85 and,in many cases, it was relevant.

Matter of opinion....I would put my money on the present radars in the F15 being better and technology wise other than vector it appears to be the same technology as the F-15....with an American pilot I would bet on the F-15. I'd bet more on an Israeli p[pilot!!

Kill ratio was 8:1 in favor of the F-85, 5:1 with Russian pilots I think that says all there is to say!!! Anything over 3:1 is not sustainable for the loser. Can’t replace the pilots fast enough!!

Looks like F-15 tail section with F-16 wing with thrust-vectoring. It seems like pretty old technology.

True. BTW, dunno if it has "supercruise" or not like the F-22 does but that's old technology too, the English Electric Lightning had supercruise and was Mach 2+ capable, remarkable for a mid 1950's era jet.

True. Although this is fiction, in one role playing game I've played in, Twilight: 2000, the person running the game had in his world history where an F-22 was shot down going against a Cuban MiG-17 or was it a MiG-15. I believe anything's possible. BTW, Twilight: 2000 was a role playing game, albeit "alternate history" where NATO and the Warsaw Pact (along with Red China) gets into an atomic World War III from 1995 to 20xx.

The key thing to is that if supply lines were disrupted or if the SHTF so much, planes like the F-22 and tanks like the M-1 would take a hit eventually since they are maintenance hogs whereas it would be much easier to maintain something like a MiG-15/17 or a T-34. Also in the case of the T-34, the Russians made so many of them, they can rush a superior opponent and come out on top. This is known as a "zerg rush" on the TV tropes website.

Getting back to the old Twilight: 2000 game, in many games, you had planes like the Sabre Jet, Super Sabre and the FJ-1 Fury (and many WWII planes) and so on return to frontline service as well as the F-4 being towards the top end.

Good point that many so called “experts” on this site have a tendency to ignore.
My late Father was a WWII fighter pilot in the Red Army with 25 confirmed kills. Two times Hero of the Soviet Union, two Orders of Red Banner,3 Red Stars and about 30 medals. He told me many stories about WWII but always had a special place in his heart for ground crew.
