Just a guess.....you couldn’t evacuate but so quickly anyway...you’re crammed into the aisle...not moving...why not grab your bag - especially if it contains a laptop with key info, etc. Again, just a theory...I was not there and thank God have never been in that situation.

Somewhere I heard that you are not supposed to do that. I think it was in one of those pre-flight safety briefings.

Sounds reasonable to me. You can't move until the people in front of you move. If they're not moving...

Given the hard landing, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the overhead bins popped open and scattered bags into the aisles and on top of the people sitting in aisle seats. In fact, evacuation tests are done with bags scattered in the aisle. Why not take the bag in your lap or lying in the aisle with you with you? Are we going to make this a federal crime, too?

That is what I was thinking. If I had to wait to get out, I would have at least pulled out my wallet if not whole purse to go with me.

...why not grab your bag...

Because someone like me will be behind you...and lay you out so quickly and so hard that you'll burn in the fire.

Is your laptop worth it?
