Rescuers on Monday reached five men trapped in trees by several Sumatran tigers for five days after the angry animals mauled a sixth man to death, police said.

First Lt. Surya Purba said three tamers managed to drive the tigers away before the men who were in weak condition were evacuated from trees in the protected Mount Leuser National Park in Tamiang, an Aceh district neighbouring with North Sumatra province.

The men were looking for rare agarwood — used to make incense and perfume — and accidentally caught a tiger cub in a trap they were using to catch deer for food, said district police chief Lt. Col. Dicky Sondani.

In a way they were poaching. They actually were going after a type of tree that sells for about $175/ LB.

In the process they laid a trap for a deer and caught a tiger cub. The cub died.

Traps are indiscriminate killers. I would say that using such a device does qualify them as poachers.

I fully support the tiger’s solution in this matter.

They were looking for trees and trying to catch a deer for dinner. Because they accidentally caught the wrong animal you feel they deserved death? You're not one of those weird people with twelve cats that you call children and no human friends are you?

Probably using a copper wire snare, a particularly bad way to die.

No, I have one dog, and yes she is a child, I also have human friends, and I do like animals more than people. A lot more.

If they wanted a deer, then they should have shot a deer. Instead that caught a tiger cub and killed it, then Mother Nature gave them what for. Mother nature teaches stupid humans valuable lessons all the time. Pity they don’t seem to learn very often.

According to the article in Daily Mail, the guy was not mauled to death, he was torn apart and eaten.

Yep, even the domestic ones. I have noticed in my years of cats/kittens rescue, when I saw at the no-kill a mother cat with young kittens, often she will look at you with that questioning look, wondering if you will be touching her kittens. :)=^..^=

I have said and felt this way my whole life. I also know tons of people who have kids, friends and the whole deal and say the same. Some people have closed hearts when it comes to animals, because they want to follow some stupid 'code' that animals are just material things to do with what we want.

Men kill cub.

Tigers find cub

Tiger track men

Men climb up tree.

Tigers wait for men to come down.

Every cat is a tiger on the inside. Some are tigers on the outside too.

Cats are very good moms. Better than a lot of human mothers, IMO.

When Patch had her last litter, she would come running back to the nest any time she heard either me or my wife anywhere near it. And with one of her previous litters during her stray days, I remember hearing scratching sounds outside the door in the master bedroom. I looked out the window in the door and saw two kittens playing on the landing, so I went out to the back yard to investigate. There under the landing was Patch, with her ears laid back and her teeth bared.

I took the hint and went back into the house.
