Chris Weidman sent a shock wave through mixed martial arts, stopping Anderson Silva in the second round of the main event at UFC 162 to become the new middleweight champion on Saturday night.
Silva talked, taunted and dared Weidman to engage him. When the champion lowered his hands early in the second round, Weidman caught him with a short left that sent the MMA star to the mat. Weidman pounced and landed a few more shots that forced referee Herb Dean to stop the fight at 1:18

Knew that Silva’s showboating would be his downfall
I’ve been waiting for a long time to hear this.
Hold the belt for 6 years and lose due to being a jackass dropping the hands. I think he may have expected a right and not a left.
This Weidman is very powerful. Knocking someone down with just a jab — impressive!
Silva could get away when that when he was younger. He’s 38 now.
Maybe next time he won’t act like a showboating clown?
I thought the guy would never be beat. It hurts just to watch his matches.
The ref stopped the fight too soon.
Herb Dean is the best ref in the game. Should he have let Weidman beat Silva into a coma? Silva was not “intelligently defending himself”.
I can't stand showboaters.
The first rule of fight club is you don’t talk...
Left hook.
My bad. :)
Sometimes it’s hard to tell in the written word.
I saw this live last night with a bunch of friends. Silva showboat and got knocked by the Weidman with a quick hit. Idiot trollers on the web said Silva threw the fight and it was a fix as Dana White wanted a white guy to win to grab the majority white viewers.
I doubt Silva wanted to be remembered as a champion who got his ass kicked in his last fight which renders moot this morons who thought the fight was fixed. Silva wont fight for the title again as he stated and will do his 10 ring fight as per his contract. Nice to see the American flag being shown by the winner instead of Brazil for the past 7 years.
Did you hear Silva's comments afterward - something to the effect that he'll let the boy keep the belt for a little while?
Glad he finally lost. Just wish it had been Chael that beat him.
I’m so glad he lost. He showboats like a prick all fight, and then pretends to be humble and respectful afterwards. It seems most UFC guys are headcases. Given the sport it isn’t very surprising.
This will be the MMA’s example of Hubris.
Silva started out ok, but then became a jerk. I've wanted to see him knocked on his arse for years now.
