These stunning images are early photographs of some of the men who bravely fought for their country in the Revolutionary War some 237 years ago.
Images of Americans who fought in the Revolution are exceptionally rare because few of the Patriots of 1775-1783 lived until the dawn of practical photography in the early 1840s.
These early photographs known as daguerreotypes are exceptionally rare camera-original, fully-identified photographs of veterans of the War for Independence the war that established the United States.
The majority have been compiled by Utah-based journalist Joe Baumam, who spent three decades researching and compiling the images.
Digging through a myriad of sources - 18th and 19th century battle accounts, muster rolls, genealogical records, pension files, letters, period newspapers, town and county histories - he was able to flesh out the stories of these veterans.

What their eyes must have seen. Amazing how many of them were 100 years old and more. What a marvelous piece of work.
I have a replica of the cell phone Paul Revere used to contact the Minutemen. Bought if from the Nigerian Oil Minister.
Wow. The article says this body of work was inspired by another collection by Reverence E.B.Hilliard, whose work is also available on Amazon as an e-book. “The Last Men of the Revolution”. Just reading his introduction brought tears to my eyes. Such reverence for those men. The writings of those days were works of art in themselves.
Matthew Brady photographed 18 of the 19 American Presidents from John Quincy Adams (6th) to William McKinley (25th). The exception was the 9th President, William Henry Harrison, who died in office three years before Brady started his Photographic Collection.
They all seem to need haircuts. Maybe they were proto-hippies.
If you're refering to the composition, grammar and vocabulary ... youbetch'a.
THAT is the demise of America ... DeeDee showed us the result .... No One Speaks English Anymore !!!
It seems to be a coin toss for long hair/short ... beards/clean shaven.
“Isnt it ironic that it comes from a UK source”
The MSM has orders from headquarters not to get anyone thinking about the 1776 solution. :-)
What I said was silly and stupid, on purpose, for some kind of comedic effect. They were free and could do whatever they wanted, I guess. They didn’t have to toe the line on any corporate dress code. Look at Drew Dix lately, he should be able to wear his hair any way he wants. God bless the veterans!
I still luv ya'
Men wore their hair long during the Revolution. Didn’t you ever see 1776?! I forget what the pigtail was called. These men simply carried on their youthful style. All older people do that.
Thanks for posting this. It’s so interesting to put faces to the men behind our history as a nation.
