It started as a virus. It ended as a virus. It adapted in the lab.
To say it evolved is to imply a deeply fundamental change, and that did not occur.

But, if we insist on saying it evolved, I'll just point out that this is evidence of intelligent design, because the change was directed.

Apparently, you reject the theory of evolution and I am totally with you.

However, my dictionary also defines evolution as a process of slow change and development, and gives as examples: 1) The evolution of computers, and 2) Her evolution into a world-class runner. Moreover, a virus can go through many, many generations in a short period of time, giving some justification for thinking in terms of evolution.

What I do have problem with are those who push their belief of evolution on others, even without actually using the word; such as when nature program commentators say, ‘Billions and billions of years ago’, or refer to apes as our ancestors.
