Why are we nutmeggers interested in Mark?
Sox made a mistake on him.
Travis Wood is going to be active on the NL all-star roster ... despite 5 2/3 innings on Sunday.

If it happens, it happens, Wood said. I am available and I am going into it expecting to (pitch). If not I won t be disappointed or anything and I will understand. We will see what happens”
I guess he won’t pitch unless we have extra innings.

Yes, a well-deserved honor for Mark! We were cheering when we heard the news today. Looking forward to seeing him in the All-Star game on Tuesday...
Sox made a mistake on him.
Yep... we Red Sox fans would take Mark Melancon back in a minute!
I'm happy for my Pirates fan FRiends, though... ;-)
Uehara never made it, right? Anyone know who edged him out?
Greg Holland, RHP, Royals closer replaces Hisashi Iwakuma.
manager Leyland names the replacements based on his preference. He went with a more long-term closer, not Uehara. Remember, Uehara finished 4th out of 5 in the vote.
Speaking of Sox-Pirates, I went to a PawSox game, few years back, and watched Mike McKenry, C, hit HR. Next day, traded to PITT for player-to-be-named-later. McKenry worked out fine for PITT.
Sox never got the player. I guess they don’t mind giving away useful players. That was the year PITT had 5 injured catchers and had to use an infielder in AAA as the starting catcher.
also note that it was Delabar TOR who won the final vote over the other 4 RHP set-up guys, including Uehara.
do the Pirates fans wonder why the Sox traded McKenry to PITT for free? Especially since PITT was desparate at the time for a catcher.
Sox got Brock Holt. Hanrahan too, but we’ll skip that part of the trade.
silly. McHenry. wasn’t that summer of ‘12? Holt, Hanrahan was December. Different trade.
Holt been doing real good at 3B for Sox. Hanrahan is Tommy John.
McKenry was traded with a future trade to be determined. I suppose that could have eventually been Hanrahan. When Hanrahan was All Star material. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out so well.
boring game in a sense. Few-mid-inning pitching changes, few pinch-hitters.
The only NL managerial move during an inning was McCutchen pinch-running.
The only AL managerial move during an inning was Pedroia for the injured Cano and Hunter pinch-hit ... and then the Holland-Cecil-Delabar 7th inning.
The only purpose Zobrist served was to pinch-run for Fielder ... and Leyland could not pull the trigger. Maybe he didn’t want it cuz been 2 years since Zobrist played 1B.
When he yanked Delabar after one batter to go to Mariano, Leyland was playing the risk card again on running out of pitchers ... if Mariano-Nathan blew the save and Perkins came in ... and extra innings, Masterson & Tillman was all he had left.
They will run out of pitchers in the 15th no matter how much they expand the rosters.
Painful listening.
Sale was robbed of the MVP. 2 innings to 1 for Mo. With no noteworthy offensive performance Sale is the no brainier choice. It’s not a lifetime achievement award, Rivera will get that in about 5 years.
Like most or all of the never defensively elite Jeter’s gold gloves that he was given for his BAT and fame, more undeserving hardware for a Yankee.
As for Leyland he’s always rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t like him putting Rivera in the 8th when he had the lead, if you wanted to give him a honor he actually deserved it was to close out the game, you could always bring him in the 8th with runners on in the unlikely circumstance that Nathan got in trouble.
His only agenda was getting home field in the hopes his team makes the series, understandable I guess but that brings up whether home field oughta be the prize of this game.
I missed that but Marc Anthony could have stood to turn up the volume on “God Bless America” during the 7th inning stretch, too soft.
