the selection rules are a bit silly. A guy can come in 2nd place with 10% of the players’ vote and he is on the team. Even if the player behind him in 3rd place also makes the team due to one-player-each-team rule.
And why 2 Designated Hitters for AL? Elect one and let the manager decide during the game who pinch-hits for Ortiz.
Will they run out of pitchers if it goes 15 innings? that is still the drama.
How many guys from Missouri did CarlosHen select?
National League starting line up, the Saint Louis Cardinals!!
This is our year to win it all for Stan The Man Musial!
he’ll get his 2nd gold glove in his third full time year career this year 25 2 baggers.....301 avg....5 lead off homers this year
best of arm in the game
Not sure, but I think the rules state there has to be a second DH. I picked Encarnacion, whose stats are worthy, and he's been more DH than 1B or 3B this year, I think.
If it were up to me, of course, there would be no such thing as a DH. I'm a National League guy and an old-timey baseball purist.
How many guys from Missouri did CarlosHen select?
I, CarHen, a resident of Missouri, selected seven players (out of 68 total) from Missouri: one from Kansas City, Ervin Santana, and six from St. Louis: Molina, Carpenter, Beltran (starters), Craig (reserve), Wainwright and Mujica (pitchers). I do live in St. Louis, yes, but I also think these guys deserve to be on the team.
One of my favorite memories of my Dad...1961 All Star Game,Fenway Park.I was a young kid; we had box seats, first base side.Hot summer day (that turned ugly, resulting in the game being called at 1-1).The Red Sox had a rookie pitching sensation named Don Schwall who made the team.Musial comes up against Schwall...count 3-0.Then he starts fouling off pitch after pitch,it seemed to be about a dozen. My Dad leans over to me and says...and I remember his *exact* words.."you watch,Musial's just toying with this kid".Next pitch,Schwall strikes him out.Fenway went wild! And my Dad was no longer infallible!
I have been watching the Mariners play ball for decades now and there is one thing that stands out, among all the things wrong with the team. And, that is: No matter who is on the team; no matter who is the field Manager; no matter who is the General Manager; no matter who owns the team --- they simply cannot move a runner in scoring position across the plate. I don't know what it is about this team. I have, in my frustration, decided that as soon as a player's name is stiched on the back of a Mariner's jersey, they lose the ability to bring someone across homeplate who is in scoring position.
That is only one, of the many things, that is aggravating about being a Seattle Mariners fan.
Call them the Seattle Marooners.
you are correct that the player who finishes 2nd place to Ortiz in the player voting becomes the 2nd DH and automatic spot.
Silly, because half the AL teams do not have a full-time DH ... they rotate players based on opposing pitcher matchups, etc. Otherwise, the manager could use Kendrick as the DH or Kipnis or matchup vs. the pitcher game situation.
Encarnacion will be allowed to play the field if that is what the manager decides.
JOE TORRE will not be managing this year’s game, so maybe I will watch. And Ron washington will not be either. But, Leilich did a hack job on managing previous all-star games.
Freddie Freeman belongs at 1b for the national league in the asg. a .315 ba and he only has a salary of 550k this year? What a bargain !
If he played in an ESPN bias market like DC or ny, he’d be there, without question.
The problem is that NL 1B is so stacked this year. Votto and Goldschmidt have to be there, no question. I put Craig slightly ahead of Freeman. And Adrian Gonzalez would be a good choice, too. So there are five worthy, and two of those are locks.
Votto has a slightly better ba than freeman, but freeman has 15 more rbi’s.
He is also a better fielder.
Just looked it up:
Votto: 10 errors.
Freeman: 6 errors
There’s no way Votto is not on the team. He is an absolute lock. “All-Star” is not just about this year, three months. It’s also about what a guy has established himself to be. And Votto is the best in the league over the past few seasons.
I’m not saying he won’t make the team, just that freeman is already a better 1b.
The numbers don’t lie. King out...
Did you really pick Segura for the NL SS?
This guy...? Lol.

YOUR NL team is a good benchmark.
position players:
I’m not excited about Scutaro, but with Bochy the manager and a WS win, I give him a pass as a 2nd SF player.
Rosario C, COL could be a 3rd catcher
Tulowitzski might play. ???
Pitchers:
i’M NOT into Melancon and Mujica
add Chapman? maybe Paul Maholm, if the Braves only have 1 player. Maybe Bumgarner, SF.
Cishek could be the Marlins choice over Fernandez.
Maybe Gregg over Wood for the Cubs’ selection.

Not everyone sold on Santana C, CLE
“It’s that defensive reputation that will likley keep him off the All-Star team. Joe Mauer looks like he’ll be voted in as the starter and Matt Wieters will probably get the backup nod via the players’ ballot. If there’s a third catcher chosen it’s more likely to be Jason Castro as the Astros’ representative.”
I go with Hardy BALT SS (he is going to make it regardless) and drop one of the OAK infielders ... (Donaldson or Lowrie) Lowrie defense is a question mark. Limited Range (?) plus 11 errors. (or drop both and add Coco Crisp CF, base stealer)
Add Kendrick and drop Crain, give CHW one player.
I already dropped Santana C above.
Robertson gives the NYY 4 players. Won’t kill me to see him not make it. Matt Moore, LHP, Tampa Bay
Howie is a good player...and good citizen!!
Ditto !!!!!!
