Truth be told, I seldom use it any more for the same reasons. Only when I have to bring a cake to a gathering.

But, I cannot fix Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter dinners without it and the Cuisinart. I use that big, ol’ mixer to stir up my stuffing ingredients, and to mix my apple pie filling with the spices and sugar and lemon peel, as well as to make the whipped cream. Of course it is essential for cakes, too.

The funny thing, when I got it, I didn’t know all the tricks to use it. I had had a stand mixer for years of another brand, but it didn’t have a dough hook and wasn’t really strong enough to mix bread dough.

I unpacked it and set it up in the kitchen and started to make something. My high school aged son came into the kitchen as I was about to direct a stream of flour into the bowl as it was mixing (as I had always done with my other mixer). “Don’t do that!” he shouted. Too late, flour went everywhere.

I asked him how he knew that my new mixer would do that, and he laughed and pointed out that he used a giant version of that mixer at the pizza parlor where he worked on weekends.

So, I bought my first accessory and my most valuable — the clear plastic funnel guide that keeps the ingredients INSIDE the bowl when mixing. Later, I replaced that one piece guide with the split version which allows easier access if you need to stop the mixing and scrape down the sides of the bowl without dropping the whole bowl and removing the blade.

Nowdays, most of the mixers come WITH that handy little funnel cover. When I bought my mixer, you had to pay extra for that. That accounts for part of the increase in cost in 35 years.

I agree, I buy ONE cookie or treat once in awhile for myself. DH buys his own junk food, as I do not buy it. I can ignore his stuff. I have a stand mixer, but it is a Sunbeam for under $30. Works fine for when I need one, but I don’t bake much.

I would think a shredder would clean her up nicely. All this talk has me wondering if we selected the right breed. LOL

I use a shedding rake/comb that brings the loose undercoat to the surface where it can be picked up by a brush, because Husky girl’s undercoat is so dense.

I’ve said it all along-I really think the Zimmerman thing is a case of two clueless guys being in the wrong place and time at the same time and doing the worst possible thing-and one ended up dead.

It is an awful thing, and I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a penalty, but I don’t see it as murder, when it looks like both parties were at fault...

It sure as heck isn’t second degree murder. If you want to blame Zimmerman for getting out of his car (as if walking is a crime) and then getting his head beat on, it’s manslaughter tops.

But it isn’t even that. It’s self defense.

It seems to me that assault or manslaughter would be proper-stupid choices that result in the death of another person should have serious consequences-but a murder charge seems draconian to me.

Here's suggestion for a word. Saw it in a book about the conquest of Peru and had to look it up: "anabasis"

They need grooming every 6-8 weeks and sometimes have skin problems and allergies that require a costlier shampoo process or meds to control. That is where the expense comes in, because they are cheap to feed otherwise. They are sweet natured dogs, even if I do tease my dad and friends with them that they are cats in dog suits.

That is a lot more expensive than a daily rake-and-brush, or even a bear clip once or twice every summer-I guess I’ll stick with the big, furry dogs-they appears to be cheaper to keep groomed than the little ones...

After seeing the replay of that night, I don’t think Zimmerman got out of his car looking for Martin- he was looking for an address for the operator. It sounds like Martin was ducking him then doubled back and came up behind him. To me it appears it was an all out assault from martin. I don’t think anyone would have had the thought process to immediately say “oh by the way it was ME ME ME calling for help, not him, ME” - Zimmerman has said from the first moments of being questioned that he called for help, loudly. And I can see how someone who was part of a neighborhood watch program, in an area that had been repeatedly robbed, could be diligent in calling the police to report suspicious activity.

If Zimmerman started a physical fight which he had to end with his gun, I could see assault charges.

There is no evidence that proves this.

If Zimmerman was physically assaulted by Martin, then self-defense. No charges. A lesson for the thugs out there.

I saw a bit on the Zimmerman trial on the news awhile ago, and it looked as if the prosecution turned their witness-the female LEO-into a witness for the defense. Why do they keep calling LEOs to the stand-maybe they forgot the defendant was a neighborhood watch guy?

I agree that someone looking like they were sneaking around a place that has been broken into recently would be enough to put just about anyone on guard, I don’t think going after the person was wise-that was Zimmerman’s contribution to what went bad fast, in my opinion-but that was the only thing he did to create the situation.

obama is not even a faint simulacrum of the great Presidents of our past—Washington, Jefferson, or even Truman or Reagan.

May God save our poor country (as I pray in every Divine Liturgy)!!!!

If he’s convicted it will have been a charade of a trial and if he’s acquitted there will be race riots.

Say a jury finds that it isn’t self defense to defend yourself from having your head bashed. Can the stupidity of a jury even be apppealed?
