I was young enough to remember the Little Rock central High desegregation years.

One of the black girls who desegregated the school came back and gave the students a speech on what all happened back then.

She noticed the white students were listening to her talk, many of the black students had their heads on the desk not listening.

She said her first thoughts was”I put MY LIFE on the line for this?”

She went through desegregation hell, and put her life in danger so black kids could go to white schools, lay their heads on the desks and refuse to learn.

I'm 69, live in Mobile and never went to a public school with anyone that wasn't White. We had separate Black and White schools.

I think all public schools have become cess-pools due to the political-correct diversity BS that is shoved down the naïve throats of unsuspecting White children.

Get your children out of the union controlled public school system, NOW!

“One teacher I knew gave up fast food—not for health reasons but because where he lived most fast-food workers were black.”

I’ve gone farther. I tend to not support businesses who use black models in their advertising. Just last week I was shopping for Medicare Supplemental insurance online. I think it was a Colonial Penn site’s link that took me to a Banker’s Insurance page. The only faces were black so I immediately crossed it off my list. I’m tired of it.

I’m also tired of commercials where the blacks are smarter than the whites (Gerber Life Insurance). The worship of minorities craze is pathetic in advertising. If there’s a white woman and white man, the woman is smarter. If there’s a black man and a white man, the black is smarter than the white man. If there are white kids and a white father, the kids are smarter. No matter what the combination, the white man is always portrayed as the idiot.

A bit off topic, I know. Sorry.

I liked the article; it was informative and probably realistic.

This goes back a long way. I am over 40, and in eighth grade (briefly) attended a NYC junior high school that was predominantly Hispanic and Black. It was chaotic and violent like something out of a prison movie.

Exactly. I get tired of the boomers catching the blame for policies enacted when most were under the age of 20. Boomer were handed a crap sandwich, not matter how much you season it, it is still crap.

"The type of behavior described in the article is a hallmark of urban schools, not African American students or schools per se."

It's more than just urban blacks. My husband's sister went to a majority black high school in a rural area. She had to learn to fight to defend herself from constant harassment by black girls.

I went to school in a small town, and I have my own experiences.

They should optional segregated schools.
The students want it that way. The blacks want it that way. The whites SURELY want it that way.
The teachers want it that way.
The only people that don’t want it that way are liberal adult race-baiters and adult guilty white liberals.

Segregate the schools and offer the EXACT same curriculum, the EXACT same budgets.
Then see the differences at the end of the school year. See the differences in grades and truancees and teacher turn-over and crime and pregnancies.

"Maybe I’m just living a charmed life."

Yes, you are.

I was born in Virginia and have lived here all my life. Black racism has always been evident. My most recent experience with it came a couple of months ago. A car---spray-painted pink---parked next to me, and a black kid got out and slammed his door into my car. I brought it to the mother's attention, and was immediately called a "white bitch."

No, don’t agree.
The real Africans had the benefit of unbroken history plus the rigorous socialisation of British colonialism. The American blacks had the violent disruption and eradication of their history and identity via slavery plus decades of suppression and ill-treatment after “freedom” ....
That combined with the perniciously stupid policies of the 1960s, and voila, you have the mess that we find today.

ohnson’s war on poverty and Affirmative Action are both results from the 60’s, failed policies that nobody has reversed for decades now. This is how the large populations of inner city blacks were grown. /p>

.. and the oldest boomer was 25 at the end of that decade ... so how is it that you're attaching responsibility for "those policies" to them ... they were NOT in power. LBJ and liberal democrats from the WWII generation were.

You're really not paying attention, are you?

Yes and the same problems exist in the Metro Atlanta school system. One of my friends taught here for years and her experiences mirrored this article. Then she moved back to NJ and it was even worse up there. Thankfully she retired this year. I have no earthly idea how she endured it.

Here they bus the black kids into the upper middle class white neighborhood schools and then the whites who live in those neighborhoods send their kids to private school. If you are driving by the schools when the kids get out you would think its an all black neighborhood.

Yep, 25, and they’d been agitating for a good part of it. And as I said, they’ve augmented those policies and presided over them since, failing to recognize their failure. Maybe you are one of the enablers of this failure, you seem a bit too dense to recognize your own inability to comprehend right here on this thread for example. Ask me again.

I’ve seen this before. There is another one that a lawyer wrote who worked with primarily black clients in the ghetto that I was looking for the other day. It’s along the same lines but a bit funnier. Anybody have the link?

What would the “wrong” message be?

We already know that public schools are detrimental to the health, morals, and liberty of humanity,

urban schools are just 10 orders of magnitude worse.

So the parents bear no responsibility?

If you believe that it is the school responsibility to teach children how to behave in public than you are much a part of the problem as you seem to put on the schools.

Parents are the first teachers that children have for 5 years. It is their responsibility to teach them civility and decorum.

Well if you want to go back into history, then it is Lincoln’s fault. Or Booth’s, take your pick. He eliminated Lincoln before he could get on with repatriation. At any rate surely it is all because of the Pubs. (Bush’s fault)

There are many excellent messages in that essay, and urging homeschooling is certainly one of the better ones.

I have offered some of the more vocal proponents of Home schooling a list of students that they can have to prove their theories on. Oddly none of them have wanted to take me up on my generous offer.

At least six of these students were home schooled up to the ninth grade.

Yes, once money start flowing into the system there are entreched interests on both sides to keep the status quo in place, no matter how wrong it is.

So the boomers fiddled, while Rome burnt, and now they all cry in their beers and wonder who to blame.
