Multiple layers of high quality thick leather.

I also have riding armor with ballistic nylon inserts, but trust me - or not LOL - the Fox Creek is tougher. Go to their webssite and read the crash testimonials. It is seriously tough stuff.

With a good digital scale, you can weigh 22lr rounds to group rounds by weight and will get an amazing group accuracy. You will also notice there is a rather wide variation of weight in a bulk pack of 22lr ammo. if you want to have more consistency, weight the rounds and group them by weights. I’m not talking about weighing the noses, weigh the entire round. variations in weight are mostly due to powder/bullet differences during production.

CCI bullets tend to be more consistent in weight, so differences in those rounds is more due to powder charge differences.

Thanks! I read somewhere that the .22LR CCI STINGERs are lethal stuff. I don’t know if those are available and don’t know how the mini-mags compare.

Our experiences coincide with similar conclusions. I used to do a lot of bottle cap shooting years ago. Ammo was the key at making consecutive shots beyond 100 yards.

Don't know. The 12 ga load is probably cheaper though. :~)

One thing I learned was that either the ammo or the rifle needs to be changed in order to hit bottle caps beyond 50 yards with a low cost .22. The loss of accuracy was amazing just going from 50 to 60 yards and out to 75. It was almost as if they engineer it for 50 yards.

There is an extremely important quirk of the .22 that radically increases its lethality, even with treatment. For some reason, it tends to bounce around the abdomen a bit, *nicking* internal organs. Not enough to overcome the bodies ability to deal with a little internal bleeding.

And this makes it deadly. Typically, a person with a .22 wound to the abdomen gets to a hospital, the bullet is removed. They seem to be getting better, then suddenly they develop a very high fever. Peritonitis. An infection of the abdomen.

Even if they get huge amounts of antibiotics, peritonitis has a high mortality rate.

If someone is willing to pay that price when it is unavailable anywhere else, that is not gouging.

.22 ammo varies a lot, from subsonic, powered only by the primer to supersonic. Also quality varies a lot by manufacturer, when I was a kid, we had a lot of “high velocity” .22 ammo that was so slow you could follow the bullet to the target with your eyes.

It is plausible for a particular .22 to be moving slow enough to bounce off a leather coat, however, I wouldn’t count on it.

A shot through the intestines is very frequently a fatal one if it is not treated within a few hours.
