Multiply the number of gallons loaded and the variance in the accuracy of the fuel on board and you find you are being extremely silly in trying to save 48 pounds. If that is the case then rip out the carpets, the extra toilet paper rolls, the water, the interior plastics, the seat coverings, cutback on the oil in the engines, the sheepskin pilot seat covers. Hell, make everyone stand and remove the seats.
If an airline is so hard up to make profit, I can tell you from direct experience that they could remove many, many $150,000+ salaried employees to make up that piss-ass difference.
