One of our closest allies. Happy birthday, Canada (justa few days before ours), but really, even today, there is no place I’d rather be than America.
Of course, we do have a tyrant to stop.
Canada is a very nice country and has a lot of things going for it. However, in the area of free speech, there’s a lot to be desired as Mark Steyn can tell you. He was almost thrown into prison for “insulting” i.e. telling the truth about Islam. That makes Canada less free than the U.S. But not to worry, those strict speech codes will make their way here very shortly. But not yet. Which makes the U.S. ahead of Canada is the very important area of basic human rights. Having the right to speak you mind without being thrown in the slammer is not an inconsiderable right.
Do you guys get to blow things up on Dominion Day 1 July ?
Yes, it’s a wonder we didn’t film ‘Little Mosque on the Prairie’ first.
If I had been born three miles further east, I’d’ve been born a Canadian. I was born in a little village outside Windsor. You may have heard of it. It’s called the once great city of Detroit. I admire Canada immensely. But living in Palm Beach County, we get overrun by our northern neighbors from December to March. We townies are lucky to get a seat at the bar much less a table in the restaurant.
Immigration in Canada is 2x per capita higher than in the US. Canada is profoundly secular.
If you were to take Vermont and spread it all over the country - you would get pretty close to what things are like in the conservative areas of Canada.
Umm. See Pierre Trudeau.
“A cold climate has its advantages. There are fewer poisonous insects. Third world types don’t like the cold much either.”
I agree with the insects. A good long freeze kills a lot of stuff. But ask Minneapolis about the Somalis.
Canada Ping!
But you are still Canada. You are the little brother who is doing OK. So we really don’t want to discourage you too much by telling you that you are still kind of an adorable dork.
Canada is one of those places where just about anyone can say, political asylum....and bam! Welcome to Canada.
I will see your Pierre and raise you a Margaret. A looker back in the day.
I hear you still Ding Dongs. The Hostess ones.
Yep, our supply was never interrupted. They’re baked in Montreal.
The Somalis are in Minneapolis in spite of the weather. There is another reason for them to be there, I don’t know what it is.
My father and many relatives are from Detroit. I do have the distinct memory of crossing over the Ambassador Bridge and touring downtown Windsor back in the sixties when I was about 13. It was Sunday, and we didn’t see one person on the streets of Windsor. Then I figured out how Canada kept crime down...they didn’t allow anybody out of their houses on Sunday.
Not any more. My few remaining cousins there tell me that Windsor is the place to go for bottomless entertainment. Staid old Windsor has changed.
