I have a relatively new laptop HP with this POS Windows 8. I do not have a touch screen so their is no reason for 8 at all.
I do not want the patch. I want windows 7.

Why did they have to ruin Windows 3.1?

New name for WINDOWS 8 is WINDOWS OOPs {we goofed again}. Of course in the spirit of ongoing arrogance of never acknowledging or admitting past blunders & disasters. Mistakes such as M.E. VISTA, & 8, will continue while they ignore their customers basic needs and instead listen to their new age Nerd program writers.
A good percentage of users both in business and private users simply do not want to learn a new OS each time some Geek gets another bright idea. Their best OS which was XP still meets the needs of most users in reliability and simplicity. Rather than capitalize on it MS forces a change in desktop OS design many simply never wanted.

My two main PCs (a desktop and a laptop) are running 7 Home Edition.I’m perfectly happy with 7 and see myself being happy with it for some years to come (having also been happy with XP Pro for years).I’ll never consider Mac...or Chrome...and won’t consider an upgrade from 7 in the near or intermediate future.

Just a few days left for me to pull the trigger on what appears to be a good deal on a Toshiba Qosmio X70-ABT2G22 lap top.
This Win 8.1 crap has me concerned enough not to pull it.

I love how the first new “feature” is the ability to turn off the crappy UI and revert to the traditional Windows UI.
Big progress, there M$. Now, go back to becoming obsolete.

Oh good, they figured out a plurality hate the new UI.
Now if they’d just pull their head out of their rear on the changes to VS2012 they’d restore some of my faith in their decision making. Not all, but some.

More significant is that many searches no longer require a full-screen view. Imagine you are running Word, for example, and wish to launch Excel. Both are desktop apps, so showing the Start screen is jarring. Now you can press Win-S, type Excel, and select the app from a right-hand panel without leaving the desktop. In windows 7 I move my cursor up to the taskbar and click the excel icon. Done. So now (after the improvements) my single click is still replaced with a keyboard shortcut + 5 keys + a click. That's one user entry versus seven. This is a good example of how Microsoft has made the UI clunky and user unfriendly. I will keep windows 7 as long as I possibly can.
