So, what and when is the next Windows release?
I have a relatively new laptop HP with this POS Windows 8. I do not have a touch screen so their is no reason for 8 at all.
I do not want the patch. I want windows 7.
It will take you 60 seconds to install classic shell.
It will fix all your problems with windows 8!
A 16 bit version of Metro, for the Metro-Hexuals?...
Why did they have to ruin Windows 3.1?
A good percentage of users both in business and private users simply do not want to learn a new OS each time some Geek gets another bright idea. Their best OS which was XP still meets the needs of most users in reliability and simplicity. Rather than capitalize on it MS forces a change in desktop OS design many simply never wanted.
I’m running Win-7 Pro x64 SP-1, since ‘09 and really like it. My sister just got a new HP Envy laptop with Win-8, and I wanted to reformat, install a clean copy of what I’m using from OEM CDs, but HP tech advised against it. Didn’t give any real reason, other than saying it wouldn’t work on that hardware. Not being a computer guy, I don’t know why.
I actually thought people would appreciate the news of 8.1 coming out.
I think your license for Win 8 allows you to upgrade to Win 7 free as long as you can find a copy.
Ping to read later
My two main PCs (a desktop and a laptop) are running 7 Home Edition.I’m perfectly happy with 7 and see myself being happy with it for some years to come (having also been happy with XP Pro for years).I’ll never consider Mac...or Chrome...and won’t consider an upgrade from 7 in the near or intermediate future.
Technology is assumed to always be moving forward, but that clashes with reality. Windows has always had the football, Poor Users name is Charlie Brown. But don't worry, the bugs will all be fixed in windows (current version +1).
Exactly! MS has an established record of releasing a Crappy OS every other major release. They could make a fortune by selling Licensing of a continuation of XP to support it. MS could in fact please all user markets and make substantial profit from it.
Microsoft as usual goes with a one choice here it is you'll love it or else attitude. Many persons for various reasons do not want a tablet for home use. For that matter many users are still forced to use dial up service. Microsoft OOPS.
BTW I have used MS systems from W/98- XP on the 4 computers I have owned.
For me, the next big thing will be 1024 bit. That will ROCK!
They added a "Start button" with condescending comments about PC users who don't want to use a touch screen UI with a mouse and monitors. Yeah (not)!
I almost never use the start button, and frankly could care less. What I DO use is a mouse (not a touch screen), shortcuts on a desktop, AND I actually use "windows."
It's amazing to me that an OS called "Windows" doesn't have actual windows per the sheets of paper on a desktop paradigm anymore. The OS's namesake has been abandoned for fixed size full, half or quarter screen "apps" in order to accommodate small devices with touch screens. No more resizable windows, window stacking, etc. Your screen layout is Microsoft's way or the highway - no more windows.
Moreover you have to use non-intuitive mouse swipes to emulate a finger. On a PC with 2 big monitors that I can't even reach, using a mouse? No thanks.
They are lying. Just reinstall 7 should work just fine.
It's gonna be a while b4 I move on.
Being a Luddite, I also still prefer desktops with huge monitors to "smart" phones and tablets (though I do use my wife's electronic/digital equipment while on the road).
