I actually thought people would appreciate the news of 8.1 coming out.

They added a "Start button" with condescending comments about PC users who don't want to use a touch screen UI with a mouse and monitors. Yeah (not)!

I almost never use the start button, and frankly could care less. What I DO use is a mouse (not a touch screen), shortcuts on a desktop, AND I actually use "windows."

It's amazing to me that an OS called "Windows" doesn't have actual windows per the sheets of paper on a desktop paradigm anymore. The OS's namesake has been abandoned for fixed size full, half or quarter screen "apps" in order to accommodate small devices with touch screens. No more resizable windows, window stacking, etc. Your screen layout is Microsoft's way or the highway - no more windows.

Moreover you have to use non-intuitive mouse swipes to emulate a finger. On a PC with 2 big monitors that I can't even reach, using a mouse? No thanks.
