“Khadijah White graduated from the Annenberg School for Communication in May 2012. She is currently a lecturer at the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously she worked as a journalist on an Emmy-nominated team at NOW on PBS and served as a White House intern on the Obama administration’s Broadcast Media team.

White researches race, media, gender, and politics. Her dissertation is a multi-platform study that examines the cultural significance of Tea Party news coverage in online, print, broadcast, and cable news. She has conducted ethnographic media research in the United States, Australia, and South Africa. She has also published her work in books, academic journals, professional blogs, and presented her research at conferences around the world.

In 2007 the National Association of Black Journalists and United Nations awarded her a reporting fellowship to Senegal, where she interviewed President Abdoulaye Wade and other national leaders. In 2012, the University of Pennsylvania honored her with a Women of Color at Penn Award which recognizes a recipient’s leadership, service, and positive impact on the Penn community.

White is currently a boardmember of the Ethnicity Race in Communication division in the ICA and a reviewer for Platform: Journal of Media and Communication and Journalism. As a Fontaine Fellow at Penn, she also earned a MA degree in Communication and graduate certificate in Africana Studies. She graduated from Swarthmore College with a self-designed major in Social Justice and a double minor in Black Studies and Peace/Conflict Studies in 2004.

She should also explore the cultural significance of Obama’s IRS effectively neutering the Tea Party in an election year, allowing a Kenyan Marxist to be illegally elected for a second time. Go on, Khadijah, do it! /sarcasm;)
