Why do so many in Europe feel so much hostility to the most open and liberal democracy in the Middle East? Daniel Gordis, President of the Shalem Center, zeroes in on the source of the problem in this fascinating look at the complex relationship between Europe, Israel and the Arab World.
They do indeed. I suspect that when Stalin was offered, by (FDR, was it?) a good chunk of Northern Norway as ice-free sea access but said no, thank you, it was partly because of Nansen’s work saving a lot of Russians. Instead of staying put, the Russian forces packed up their stuff and went home in good order.
Norway bans Kosher butchering, doesn’t it?
From what I’ve read—in the very PC way of moden Europe, while Norwegians despise the Nazism of the past (and the very hard right (in Europe)) they also utterly despise the nation of Israel...
I think it’s a very fine line between hating Israel, and rank antisemitism, a line I think Norway by in large, has crossed.
Oh, the line has been crossed all right. While the rest of Europe had various discrimination of Jews, which Hitler took advantage of, Norway banned Jews outright in its constitution until 1851. They weren’t alone, however - Jesuits and “monks” were also banned.
