I could not help but think of the "Obamaphone" woman when I read this.

We employ locks and deadbolts all the time along with a security system and no where in my home am I more than 10 feet from a ready to go airborn home defense system aka shotgun or pistol.

Oh no, they will survive a while. They have had to survive in a world where everything that is not locked behind doors, chained to the floor, and wrapped with wire is stolen. The Obamaphone types (be they black, white, brown or yellow) know how to get what they want—when they need to.
They are used to violence and fighting. I haven’t lived that way for a long time. My kids have never lived that way.
No, you will lose a lot more in the suburbs than the inner city.
The inner city will go due to violence, but they will march into the suburbs and get what they want. Until someone shoots them.

Dumb people don't bother me. Dumb people who vote do.
I'm amazed at the number of late model, expensive vehicles which I see around here still sporting Obama bumper stickers.
Most of the rest of us drive basic transportation and have long since either removed our stickers for the other guy or replaced them with clever stickers saying something like "Don't Blame Me. I voted for the American."

I was stationed in Buenos Aires ingvthe late 1980s. We lived in a very nice neighborhhod in what I thought was a a pretty safe 'house. It was bordered on three sides by other nice houses. There was an eight foot wall in the back yard. I use to hang my sweaty running stuf on a clothesline just outside the kitchen. Because I knew the neighbors behind had a noisy German Shepherd, I got pretty lax in locking the door. Unbeknownst to me, the neighbors behind had moved, taking my protection with them. Then one May morning, I came downstairs and noticed a change in usual light patterns. I looked around, and found that we had been burgled. The thieves took my VHS, my daughter's flute and my brand new Bass Weejins, the bastards. Scary to realize that we were burgled while sleeping. I reported this to the Security Officer at the Embassy who dispatched his police liaison officer to deal with the BA Police. They came to investigate in November.
The traffic in BA is horrendous, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Shah's Teheran or Tokyo. Still, BA was the best place in the world to eat world class beef or consume excellent Andean wine.

taking for granted that some good Samaritan will find their kid and return it to themI once knew a guy who swore his parents would take him to Coney Island and immediately lose him, so that they could enjoy their day without him until they picked him up at the lost-child shelter when it was time to go home.

People here, most of them have never been mugged in their life, most have never seen the wrong end of a gun barrel. Theyve never suffered a home invasion or even know friends of family that have gone through that. Its all so distant and unreal to them. what a BS article. the guy makes it sound like its a problem you have never been mugged. stupid.

I’m particularly amused by the yuppies here in MA that bought homes with no fireplace.

The doors and lock themselves are a joke which is bad enough, but then to make it even worse people leave their doors opened all the time.
My poor wife has the patience of a Saint.
First, she had to deal with me concerning the layout of the home we purchased. No glass along the door frames. Choke points at the entries.
Second, the two replacement doors had to be steel with no glass.
Finally, absolutely no facebook postings of “we’re going away for the weekend!” “This is our location and our house is vacant!”

So this guy is turning off the street and into a parking lot. Were the “woman and her two brats” on the sidewalk?

It is hard to say who would survive a shtf type of situation.
Preparation helps in all forms of life. But, it is not a sure thing. Accidents and incidents sometimes weed out the unlucky. That is life.

My brother and I call them ‘zoo people’. They are used to having everything handed to them, never having to really worry about anyone hunting them, there is always food, water, medicine readily available, always an awning to hide under when it rains.
Zero situational awareness in urban areas, I don’t know how they even survive in modern world. For sure they would either have to learn fast or die in even a localized SHTF situation.

I think people wandering around parking lots are the ones most endangered. I look in all 4 directions before I slowly back out of my parking space. A few feet out and there are people who are oblivious that a Cheve Tahoe is slowly moving toward them. I haven't run over anyone yet..........
