Celebrity chef Paula Deen was today sacked from her job at the Food Network despite begging the public for forgiveness over her past use of racial slurs in a heavily-edited video apology.
A Food Network spokesman issued this statement today: 'Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month.' It came just hours after she released the 45-second video in which she says: 'I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong I have done. I want to learn and grow from this.
'Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my fans, my team, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. 'Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made.'
The 66-year-old was due to appear on the Today show this morning to to answer questions from Matt Lauer about the racial slurs - but she pulled out just before the show started. Later that day she announced on her Twitter page that she would be releasing a video statement soon. After the initial video was released another, longer one was then posted on YouTube and was taken down soon after.

My Mom was born in the early 1920s in Indiana. When she was growing up, it was against the law in that county for a black man to be in the county between sundown and sunrise. She said the law was changed when she was around 10-12.
I remember as a kid growing up I was proud to live in a country where you were free to think and express yourself as you wish. “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me”.
Southern accent and gleefully cooking in animal fat meant she was pretty much doomed to be thrown under the bus.
The irony is that southern soul food, for which she has been an ambassador of sorts, is probably one of the few areas of genuine shared culture that blacks and whites in this country have.
She should have just stuck to her original statement she made in court and refused all TV interviews and kept her dignity and let it die down. But they always have to buckle under to the pressure and start grovelling. It never works.
For every time Paula said the “N” word the black comics on the comedy channel stand up say it a 100 times.

Agreed. I honestly don’t think Paula Deen is a racist, she voted for Obama, for heaven’s sake. I called somebody a retard (I was alone) for pulling out in front of me the other day but that doesn’t mean I hate retarded people, (sorry, mentally challenged). That said, I hope this serves as a learning example to celebrities about stating their political opinions. She came out as a liberal democrat and alienated half her fan base. Now, with this new racist allegation, she’s alienated even more fans. Celebrities, keep your opinions to yourself and do what you do best, sing, act, cook, whatever.

“They haven’t even accounted for how absurd it is for someone who’s black to be using a racial slur to a student,” said Shaun Reid, Smith’s attorney. “Talk about context! There’s a lot of things wrong here.”
I was in a business meeting and I don’t remember what brought up the subject but I said something about “Indians” referring to what is now “native Americans”. Some liberal bit.. lit into me; when she finished I told her that I was Cherokee and we always referred to ourselves as indians, and some white woman wasn’t going to stop me. She shut up.

I hope she wins. PC is beyond ridiculous. I’ve heard the Labour Party in the UK says the word blackboard is “racist”.

Agreed. At one time, most celebrities generally understood that and it made sense. We don’t come to them for our politics any more than we go to buy gasoline from a Chinese restaurant.

LOL I am such a mongrel. My dad was 7/8 Cherokee and 1/8 German, my mom was at least 1/4 Jewish and the rest English, and the rest Irish and maybe Scottish.
Lincoln, himself, petitioned Illinois not to allow freed blacks into Illinois. He also supported laws that forbid marriage between blacks and whites. Lincoln was always against slavery but never supported blacks as equals. He was not an abolitionist that supported the freeing of all slaves as equals.

The only recipe I can’t get (it’s their very unique specialty) is the “Low Country Egg Rolls” which is egg rolls just like in chinese restaurants, except it’s filled with seasoned collard greens and pull pork. I’m drooling just thinking about them.
