A Florida man wanted to steal himself a vehicle, so he decided to flag down the first car that came his way so he could carjack it. A woman driving down 50th Avenue in Escambia County slowed down when she spotted the man waving her down, pretending he needed help.
When she stopped, the man pulled out a gun and demanded she get out.
She did.
He hopped in the car.
And then his grand criminal plan was foiled when he noticed the car was stick shift, because he apparently drive stick.
So it was time to switch to Plan B: RUN AWAY! According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office's Facebook, Antoren "Chief Keef" Bell, 19, fled on foot from the vehicle when he discovered that it was a stick shift.
The victim helped police ID Bell through a lineup, and he was arrested on Friday.
The incident happened back in May.
Bell has been charged with theft, robbery and criminal mischief. He was being held on $400,000 bond.
Carjacking ought to be treated like kidnapping and both ought to be punishable by death.
And then his grand criminal plan was foiled when he noticed the car was stick shift, because he apparently drive stick.
Is that supposed to be English?
Being able to drive a car is rapidly becoming a lost art.
Couldn’t come through in the clutch.
Geez. Kids today. Too bad the driver wasn’t packing. But, then again, we’d have us another saint trayvon profiling incident where king hussein could speak up for his possible son, if he had one, which he doesn’t. Just 2 young girls he doesn’t want “punished” with a baby. You know. Like his mom.
Ouch, he had to shift gears in his plan, and couldn’t.
An old column-shifted manual transmission is probably the ultimate in carjacker confusion.
This is similar to a story just a month or so ago from Maryland? when two fine upstanding citizens carjacked a Mercedes and after spotting a Porsche Turbo decided to add to their spoils. The smart Porsche owner did not resist but like in this case the car was abandoned as the miscreant could not drive a standard shift car
Which old car had the buttons on the dash? That was odd. My aunt had one when I was a youngster.
So is carjacking. Today’s carjackers don’t start with the fundamentals. It’s all about the fundamentals. They just don’t teach that any more, whether it’s carjacking, basketball, investment banking.
And I bought my first ever auto transmision vehicle! Damn!
LOL but then I learned to drive all them and double clutch too. But then I am getting old.
You caught that too. I tried to read it several ways, but still have no idea what the sentence should say. Tanx toooooo guvmnt schrools.
I know some late-50s and early-60s Chryslers had push-button automatic transmissions...
LOL... TRUE!
Years ago, I almost bought an old used Nova that was 3-on-the-tree. It was hard to shift. I accidentally got it into reverse trying to go to 2nd while rolling. That will scare the hell out of ya (and about knock your teeth out). I didn't buy the car because the holes in the floor boards straight through to the pavement made me nervous. And after what I did to the transmission, I figured it might be a little maintenance issue down the road.
Too funny! “Chief Keef”? Guess he’s not much of a chief anymore...
That said, I can drive a stick and it’s the only reason I can easily rent a car in Europe. Most of the world doesn’t do automatics so there’s a premium for renting one.
Want to be really global? Learn to drive a stick.
Wow, the 5-speed stick in my Miata is a theft deterrent!* Who knew?
* That and the fact that it’s 22 years old and getting a little scruffy looking. :)
