Wife and I took a trip as guests on an Interlake steamer some years back. The voyage was from Two Harbors to Ford Motor at the Rouge River, north of Detroit.
These big boats flex just going down the lake.

These are not lakes, they are inland seas. :’) And freshwater has a shorter wavelength, so in otherwise identical storms, a boat will be broken faster.
