"...he wudda had to have climbed through a deluge of feces to get to me"
ping.....
The bear probably left because of the bad smell.
And my drawers wouldda had that mottled, camouflage look.
Dang.
I’ve seen 8 so far this spring in the northwoods. None too close.
I remember back in maybe ‘72 or ‘73, hunting for deer near my cabin at a 3500 ft altitude in northern Idaho. The mosquitoes were torturing me all day...and no deer. Two groups of bears, moms and kids, came by. Later, a huge male black bear came by. I let fly (there was no bear season at that time in Idaho). It stood, ROARED, and ran off into the woods. I tracked him a short distance when I found him wedged between two trees. Six big guys were required to transport the beast on three stretcher logs. It was, according to a hound hunting friend, the record in Idaho, although no efforts of registration was ever taken. It was pushing 600 lbs.
YOU'RE
You + Are = You're
I almost had a collision with a black bear about two months ago right here in my complex (morris-northern NJ)

“Just a looking for Picnic Baskets...”
Thanks for saving me the trouble. LOL
A liberal tree-hugger in California wasn't so lucky. A while back, some guy, I think from Berkeley, chained himself to a tree so the loggers wouldn't cut it down. A bear came along; the guy panicked, couldn't unchain himself from the tree, and became an easy lunch for the bear.
That’s quite a bit closer to a bear than I’d care to be.
I'm in Monmouth there was a sighting recently in Freehold.
In fact there have been verified sightings in all 21 counties.
Best yt comment, “Canadian bear: Oh its your tree? Sorry. My bad.”
Couple of years ago a bear lost the longevity race with an SUV in the S turns on Rt. 23N just past the dam. The SUV could be fixed. The bear - not so much.
But I guess it's OK because your NJ neighbors don't want to hunt the pretty cuddly bears...
It should be mandatory that anyone who puts a 'ban the NJ bear hunt' bumper sticker on their vehicle also install a bear baiting station in their back yard so they can have the opportunity to have close encounters of the bruin kind with their favorite wild animal...
