I presume by “jack knife” they meant the back end came around. It is a rear wheel drive car.

We always called that “swap ends”.

Hard to see how the term ‘jack knife’ occurred to anyone.

I think from watching the video that “jackknife” means the driver lost control and hit the palm tree on the side causing the car to fold up like a knife.

Spinning out via oversteer and jack knifing are two completely different things when discussing vehicle dynamics and crashes.

A car DOES NOT jackknife unless it is towing a trailer, in which case the combination can.
