When an accident occurs, the person responsible for the accident, if he has any honor or dignity, doesn’t say “take it easy, I’m a police officer” to relatives of the victim.

The fact that the police officer’s response was “take it easy, I’m a police officer” after *striking a four year old*, tells us a lot about the government employee involved.

As verbal responses go, that's pretty mild, especially when the cop was injured and saw that he was about to be physically assaulted.

Really? Is this Chicago?

Why does anyone post stories about Chicago? Nobody with a brain gives a tinkers fart who does what, who gets killed in Chicago.

I’d convict the officer for manslaughter + reckless driving. Plus assault causing bodily harm on the cousin.

He could have easily killed two people here.

I don’t think the father’s reaction was unwarranted.

The cop needs to be more careful when he drives. Sliding out, and hitting and nearly killing an innocent 4 year old and then shooting an innocent father protecting his child?

I don’t see self defense warranted here when his actions nearly killed a little girl.

The headline is a fraud, as most are.

The cop did what he had to do, but wonders if a little less force would have subdued the guy just as well as shooting him dead.

Careless driving has consequences.

I stand by George Zimmerman who was on his back getting his head smashed into the conrete and ended the attack with his gun.

I’m usually skeptical of cops, but I got to support him given the available facts.

Of course, it is the cop, not the four year old, who is the victim.

I forgot, we must defend our government employees at all costs, Comrade.

After all, when it is your daughter, your niece, your granddaughter, or your female relative who lies bleeding, and the governement employee who struck her believes his *occupation* is more important justification to relate than a *fervent, sincere apology for causing a tragic accident*, at least you’ll have the satisfaction of saying:

“Oh, you’re a police officer, that’s different then. I thought you were a mere mundane who struck my daughter/granddaughter/niece/female relative.”

“At that point he’s defending his life — he’s on the ground, he’s about to lose consciousness from the people who are beating him and draws his weapon in defense of his life,” Camden said. “The officer responded accordingly.”

Kinda like ZImmerman.

“Take it easy, I’m the Police.” **** Note the attitude: “It doesn’t matter that a child is in pain; you shouldn’t be angry at me, I’m a government employee.”

BS.

You should have done more research before starting the thread. Your initial post also blames the cop.

The cop tried to miss the girl then offered aid, dad comes along and with the help of the 18 year old cousin starts punching and kicking the crap out of the officer who was attending to his injured daughter while the cop himself was already suffering from a broken arm and broken leg.

The officer is expected to recover from his injuries, which include contusions to his head and body from the attack and as well as a broken leg and broken shoulder from the crash, Camden added

BS, it is irrational, thug violence to attack an injured accident victim. The officer wasn't dressed as an officer and identifying himself was/is an appropriate action. As an officer, he was probably the only one present with basic first aid training. Beating the crap out of him prevents him from helping your child.

There is no point in delivering a beat down. It doesn't get help there sooner, it doesn't help your child and in fact, further endangers them because being near a street fight is always dangerous.

This "dad" is dead because he was a stupid violent thug.

If the family is to be believed, the cop never announced that he was a cop:

Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, the eight-year veteran officer was riding his motorcycle north on First Avenue, as Passley and the girl returned from a jerk chicken shop. Both were struck by the motorcycle.

Police said the officer did all he could to avoid more serious injuries, but Middleton was furious that his daughter had been struck, and attacked the officer.

Middleton was shot and killed by the officer after punching and kicking the officer.

Chicago Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said the man on the motorcycle announced he was a police officer. But Middleton’s family insists he never knew he was attacking an off-duty cop.

“He never let anyone know that he was an officer until after he shot him,” said Middleton’s cousin, Cordell Haggard.

Even a cop who believes relating his *occupation* to the victim’s relatives is relevant *at the scene of the accident*.

I can’t think of one Freeper here who, having struck a child in a tragic accident, would *think* to mention their occupation under the circumstances, unless it was. “I’m a doctor/nurse/EMT. I’ll treat your child for free.”

And the daughter is doubly victimized.

Odd, that this keeps being forgotten.

If that story is true(The version you posted in your reply) then the guy deserved to be shot. The Father sounds like another Trayvon Martin punk to me.

Bingo! He should have been more concerned with helping his injured daughter than beating up the guy who actually was helping his daughter. The headline is pure garbage.
