I am looking into a HAM radio setup at the house, along with learning classical Greek, which I think should be the new official language of the New Republic.
That gives me an idea for a story about a hand written grocery list that’s found centuries from now.

Someone here posted a link to a video yesterday. What it said, jokingly, is that we should overwhelm the system. Every phone call, text, email, etc we should throw in terrorist talk. Say something about truck bombs or shooting people. They wouldn’t be able to investigate all the crazy talk/type.
Bear in mind we’ve just learned thanks to the Anthrax Zombie that the Postal Service photographs every piece of mail that goes thru the system.
That leaves HAM radio and private couriers to shuffle around thumb drives.
We are in 1984 - only worse.
Or you could just encrypt your emails. All the “low tech” methods are subject to NSA interception too, they’ve been in existence since 1949, I’m pretty sure they still have the old manuals.
One can only imagine the effect if people just stopped using cell phones and email for an extended period. I think it would be awesome.
When the Russians decided to dump the commies back in the ‘80s, they had so few rights, they had to resort to “Samizdat,” hand-written messages passed from hand to hand or nailed on trees and telephone poles. It was one of the major reasons the commies got dumped.
Ideas whose time has come do NOT need the INTERNET.

My friend the far-left guy (FLG) is with us on this , and so are people of every political persuasion. Uprisings R Us
Does anyone else appreciate the irony of this suggestion that we go “smoke signal” being posted on an internet forum?
Operative word is “Good” Americans... What may be voluntary today may be necessary for survival tomorrow.
We are taking steps tot change banks and close accounts that are currently online. We are not going to buy online so we will not have credit card information going out to every Tom, Dick & Harry who can hack into retail sites.
I’m thinking we all need several aliases. We can also use throw away phones and email addresses we use on library computers, or computers we buy second hand at Goodwill etc. that we use on public WIFIs.

PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) is a strong 2048 bit (4096 bit avail) encryption that would keep the government computers and the Chinese busy for a hundred years at least. The name “Pretty Good” belies its efficacy.
Rather simple to use for your e-mails and internally stored documents.
It is there for your use and you only have yourself to blame if you don’t use it.
Well, I suppose I can drag out an old x86 computer and 56k modem and set up a FR BBS secure from the NSA’s prying eyes. We’re going to need an “ANSI Art Sandbox” thread though.
