Free software, browsers, social media, DNS servers etc...
Lots of good advice here. I’m already on the path, just need to move away from Gmail and I’ll be using open source exclusively for all online activity. (I still have a Windows boot partition but it is used for offline work only).
Will check this out.
Remember though, this is a sure way to get flagged as suspicious.
We’re on FR, We’re the first to be checked whenever Muslims blow something up...or a tornado or flood hits Yankee land....or Obammy goes on vacation.
Thanks for posting. Lots of interesting alternatives.
Bump.
while I am of the mind that it is easier to hide something in the open, still the Bill of Rights protects our natural right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government, so yes, take this advice and get out from the illegal governmental magnifying glass
The net result will be vast amounts of encrypted traffic, and much greater difficultly finding and intercepting the messages of bad actors. Such a shift could also cause profound changes in the online advertising industry, as it becomes difficult or even impossible for search platforms to identify their clients.
But... I CAN’T stop!

Would be really happy if I could remove all of the Google bloatware from my tablet. Even Opera uses Google on the tablet. Arrghhhh!
Bitcoin says it is NOT anonymous, so I guess not much better than PayPal. It is the online transactions that I would really like to shield, not just from the _______ dufusses either.

We have watchers on FR. I’ve spent the last 3 days using the Hanns Scharff method of interrogation ~ and boy does it work.
bkmk
In the old days that might have mattered... now they collect everything - suspicious or not...
Last I heard of anyone working on it was about two decades ago and then it, like so much laser research, simply disappeared. Then there are the super duper very tiny exceedingly powerful instant load and unload batteries ~ news on them is disappearing as fast as you can load a Department of Defense black research hole.
Of note, looking for 'that word' again I encountered the use of fiber to transmit ultraviolet and infrared white space signals ~ and that looked nice. Bet that stuff has to be decrypted too ~ but couldn't find much along that line.
