For the pairs following Tiger Woods, a little rain would be a blessing. Washing away some of the gobs of spit might help the ball roll better.

I remember a long time ago Lance Ten Broeck - then a player, now a caddy - got pissed at the stuffed shirts at Augusta and spit out a wad of skoal on the 18th green. Lance was a decent guy. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer though.

Go Phil! A one-shot lead is the barest of leads. We’ll see if (1) anyone in the earlier groups can put any pressure on him and (2) whether or not he can avoid a meltdown like in 2006 at Winged Foot. I think Horschel is someone to watch out for...

I think Jason Day is to be watched as well. Tremendous talent.

Whats with this while were young crap? What an arrogant campaign. Thats going to to encourage more people to play golf?
Yeah why dont you make the courses easier, high speed golf carts and timers on all holes. Thats what we want. pffff.
They left out “under God” in the pledge?
I tuned in for GOLF, not yacking, not history or pontification. While were young guys! Go Phil!
Happy Father’s Day all.

I think Merion has answered any questions as to whether or not it is difficult enough to host an Open. This is like watching a 10 car pileup on the interstate. Now the wind is blowing - as if it wasn’t hard enough.

Stricker off to a rocky start. He shanked a shot on the second. I have never seen a pro do that in a major..

I’m enjoying the tournament. It’s nice to have at least one tournament where par could win. I see nothing ridiculous or unfair about this course at all. It seems to reward accuracy, putting and mental toughness.

Well, maybe it’s just me, but I think a 530-yard par 4 is “ridiculous” — even for these guys.

All backing up. The course is playing tough and nerves are taut. No more cliches!
