I planted mine about 6" deep. It needs good soil. Have Wayne dig a trench about 6" deep and wide and 4 ft long per packet if you get the commercial packets of roots. Fill the trench with a mix of potting soil and your soil.
Don't put them too close together. One foot apart is plenty close.
