Here, I start everything inside. It's Texas, and it's harsh out there until the plants get large enough.

You have a very narrow window to work with. That is not in my experience, so I can't offer any advice. I can offer prayers up, but that's the best I can do. I ran out of canned jalapenos last year, and had to buy store-bought. I understand lean years, and try to ensure that I can enough to get me through those times. I don't always manage.

In another post on this thread, you said you were going to, or about to, or something like that, plant tomato seed inside. Have you done that yet?

Don’t miss me on this as I need to do it when you do. I’ll try to grow large heirloom tomatoes this time in the large containers I got for that. I have “Mortgage Lifter Red” to try. Envelope says, “Improved version of Radiator Charlie’s Mortgage Lifter”. 80-83 days.

We still have jalapenos in the freezer. Hubby grows those. He usually gets a decent little crop, but he buys all sorts of commercially prepared stuff all year long also. He’s a condiment freak. You should just see our fridge door and cupboards! LOL, there is no room for anything else. If shit ever hits the fan he will die from “food boredom”. He can’t live without sauces, pastes, salsas, etc.

He makes his own pesto too, and freezes that for later use. While I don’t care for the taste of ANY pesto, he’s wild over that stuff! He says that it is expensive to buy, so he’s happy to make his own.

I have blue lake pole beans (seed to ground) up, in a nice little bitty row. Green peas, snow peas and a tiny patch of carrots too. Also all seed to ground, BUT those were planted on time and all look nice - I’m just not too hopeful for the late seeded stuff. I’m pretty sure I’ll get some maters - as long as the deer don’t get me again.

Ah well, I’ll have a better shot at harvesting something even planting late than if I don’t do it at all!
