We don't know when we'll get the answer to the biggest question about Hillary Clinton's future: Will she run for president? But we're getting closer to answering the second-biggest question: Who will play her in the movie about her early life?
Carey Mulligan is in talks with producers of an upcoming movie about the former first lady and secretary of state, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress will meet with director James Ponsoldt, and "both sides are eager for it to work," say THR sources.
Mulligan is a surprising choice for the film, which has been buzzed about since its screenplay, titled "Rodham," appeared on the 2012 Hollywood Black List, an annual collection of unfilmed scripts getting the most industry attention. Her name was not among the initial possibilities, which included Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone.
Mulligan isn't American, but the English actress has played an American icon before, most recently starring as Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby." Nevertheless, her biggest competition comes from a different leading lady. According to the The Wrap, Jennifer Lawrence America's sweetheart is the producers' other top choice.
"Rodham" examines the early professional life of Clinton, when she worked for the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate scandal. The screenwriter Young II Kim told Politico her interpretation of Clinton's story was about the "journey of a woman who was torn between her personal desires and her professional ambition both literally pulled her thousands of miles apart, because Bill did not want to leave Arkansas, and she did not want to leave Washington, D.C."
In the meantime, Mulligan will continue to show off her best American accent, appearing in the Coen brothers' upcoming film "Inside Llewyn Davis," about the 1960s American folk music scene.

John Turturro
Is she going to play Lil’ Betty Currie (owner of Socks the PhotoOp Cat)?
