BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) The Obama administration is proposing to lift most remaining federal protections for gray wolves across the Lower 48 states almost four decades after they were added to the endangered species list.
An official announcement is scheduled Friday.

Wolf Ping!
“He screwed-up my health care, sicced the IRS on me and is eavesdropping on all my calls” is going to be bad enough for the Dems in 2014.
“He let my child get eaten by a wolf” would only compound things.
Makes way too much sense for this admin.
Please tell these modern "wolf lovers" that this is not 1800, that things do and should change and to get a real job.
Wolves are natural predators. It's what they do.....kill for meat!!
They’re already going ballistic here in Michigan over some legislation that will allow wolf hunts.
Yeah. Letting a cancer spread is always a good idea...
But seriously, this is a surprising decision. We'll see if the environazis still have sway with Dear Leader to stop the delisting.
Hey, thanks for the ping, Jaz! Back for a few days. Had a mountain lion visit my camp a few nights back at 7700 feet. Guess I didn't smell tasty. He moved on. I went back to sleep. Back out on Sunday again. I'm wearing down.
Good to hear from you. Figured you've been busy, haven't seen you posting. Take care, you never when when one those kitties will think you smell tasty. LOL!
But there are other methods to keep the elk population to a reasonable level that are more enjoyable, profitable, and tasty.
That's not to mention the health benefits of people out, traipsing through the woods, contemplating nature...
It’s a tough one for the activists.
Wolves have no natural enemies and are slowly killing off herds of deer, elk, moose and anything else that moves in the mountain states. So what’s cuter or cuddlier, little baby fawns, elk, and moose or ferocious wolves. They can’t just “all get along”. One species or the other survives.
In addition, they’ve been encroaching on domestic herds and ranchers have not been able to legally defend their property. They’ve had to shoot the wolves illegally and risk getting fined or jailed.
Absolutely right. It has taken the fools in DC four decades to understand why our forefathers exterminated wolves.
Good. Those big ones out in Idaho are a leetle too much. I hope they don’t learn how to hop a freight train and get to GA.
“The only good thing about wolves is that they keep the elk population under control.”
Grotesquely Wrong!
While wolves can reduce prey populations (their job description, after all), they do it with little to no planning or foresight.
Only man can control a population without the wide swings caused by ‘natural predation’.
Lastly, hunters generate cash flow whereas wolves pay nothing to any man and cost some men their property (livestock) and a few humans are killed by wolves.
Eat that cat! Eat that cat!
Time for a beast feast. Just be sure to play “There’s A Cat In The Kettle” at the meal.
Feline pie! Yum!
Hunters feed their families with fresh elk / mouse / deer meat that wolves often kill for fun.
Hunters will pay to do it.
