They were the ones who needed help.
A Brooklyn couple famous for hosting a self-help radio show committed suicide by suffocating themselves with plastic bags in Park Slope, police sources and witnesses said.
Psychotherapist Lynne Rosen, 46, and her motivational speaker husband John Littig, 48who appeared on WBAI-FMs The Pursuit of Happinesswere found dead in the living room of their President Street and Eighth Avenue apartment, sources said.

Merely placing the bag over one's head to suffocate isn't sufficient: The suicidal person has to take sedatives or use an asphyxiating gas.
I'm thinking that this since this was Brooklyn, they either didn't have a car or a garage to commit suicide by running the vehicle's motor in an enclosed space.
I’m going to start watching the trash bag area in my supermarket. Especially those puncture proof, stretch types. If you pass out does the bag remain airtight? I need Monty Pyton to help me understand.
exit bags..news to me...happy not to travel in that social circle
I’d agree with that; like intentional drowning in the sink. Ri-i-i-i-ight.
This is a false statement, neither sedative nor "asphyxiating gas" is necessary, other than the carbon dioxide that accumulates inside the bag.
Exceptions might be some Buddhist monk who can sit there burning from self-immolation in protest of the Diem regime, I guess. But that's an extraordinary exception.
I see so many people posting ‘feel good’ rubbish on facebook and it is not consigned to just women. Most of it is just mushy nonsense some of it is damaging psych-babble and yet their lives and marriages seem to be in a downward spiral.
Some of the stuff they post is excusing their bad or selfish behavior. Quoting motivational speakers seems to be somewhat of a new religion. I tried to pick a fight with one of these motivational speakers on some of the things he had said. My statement took him to task and totally disagreed with what he had said. His reply Yes Mel and.... he went on with his self help BS totally ignoring all I had said. I think most of them are con men out to sell a few books.
Mel
Or they could have been in deep depression after reading the inspirational books of Clinton and Obama!!!
I'm happy not to travel in that social circle as well, but seek knowledge on many issues. Exit bags are quite an innovation for the terminally ill. They are produced, commercially, in Canada and parts of Europe. There was a company in OR that produced them as well, but they were since shut down by legislative action. I can see the arguments for both sides of the issue, I tend to err on the side of neither judging a person's decisions nor dictating morality.
In an epic case of irony, this couple hosted a flim-flam monthly radio show called "The Pursuit of Happiness".
I guess they didn’t help themselves effectively enough.
Sounds to me like they pissed off the wrong Psycopath. There are a whole lot easier ways to die than suffocation. Dont know of a single person who would not take the bag off of their head or tear a hole in it if their hands were free.
As a rule, people teach what they need to learn.
“Bullshit. No one suffocating this way can stop the impulse to rip-off the bags. People suffocating will rip one another to bloody chunks to get air.”
Depends how many pills they took first.
Next, I suppose people will argue that this tragedy says nothing at all about the self-help industry (and an “industry” it is!) Isolated instance.
Following Peter Singer’s advise?
RIP RIP
Sometimes it’s a burden carrying the weight of others’ problems.
