I am trying to set the "perisistent opt-out" option for my public Yahoo e-mail account - but cannot find the web page to do it.
If you reply, PLEASE DO NOT suggest that I switch e-mail providers. I have used Yahoo Mail for over ten years and have over 1000 addresses in my address book. Many are for my blog lists, etc. So, I DO NOT want to switch e-mail providers and have to contact all these people advising of my new e-mail addy.
I am looking for someone who ACTUALLY knows how to set the "persistent opt-out" function.
What is ‘persistent opt-out’?
I am not sure what you are opting out of.
Various controls and settings are listed under the settings icon — between your Hi, Yourname and the house icon.
Yahoo “pushes” ad spam to you - especially now that it is forcing users to switch to the new Yahoo mail.
The default when you switch is “opt-in”. It can be disabled [which I have done], but it only works for the computer that you are using at the time.
If you go to another computer, “opt-in” is automatically enabled - unless you disable it again. But, if you go to a 3rd computer - it is enabled all over again.
There is supposed to be a “persistent opt-out” function in the account e-mail settings from Yahoo that creates a permanent “opt-out” for ALL computers. So, I would NOT havee to keep disabling the function ...

BTW: The “pushed” ad spam from Yahoo is created by Yahoo reading the content of ALL of your e-mails, IMs, etc. Then, Yahoo sends you spam e-mail based on the content that it read.
Yahoo getz bucks from advertisers for this ...
I use Firefox with AdBlock Plus and DoNotTrackMe. I never see Yahoo’s ads.
I have checked those web links previously, there is no box to check off “persistent opt-out” ...
The ads don’t come from Yahoo in your e-mail. Yahoo notifies the advertiser, and it sends you the unwanted e-mail ...
I see. I don’t get any legitimate ad e-mails. I only get what is obviously spam - Nigerian money, etc.
Really? You believe the ads for "Reagan.com"?
I have never sent an email or received one that had "pressure washer" or "Fluke meter" in it but get ads for it. The connection comes from your search engine...

NEW YORK - As of June 1, all Yahoo email users are required to upgrade to the company’s newest platform, which allows Yahoo to scan and analyze every email they write or receive. According to Yahoo’s help page, all users who make the transition agree to let the company perform “content scanning and analyzing of your communications content” to target ads, offer products, and perform “abuse protection.”
This means any message that Yahoo’s algorithms find disturbing could flag a user as a bully, a threat, or worse. At the same time, Yahoo can now openly troll through email for personal information that it can share or hold onto indefinitely. has a button under the Your Interest Categories >> Interest Categories:
Mine is showing “off”. If I click it [which I am not going to do], I get the Opt IN categories.
Just under the button the text is:
“To make your opt out apply to every computer you use, sign in to your Yahoo! account and choose persistent opt-out. Learn more.”
that pertains to ads. I am getting spam, some disgusting, all purported from the FReerepublic news group. They all come right into my spam folder but I don’t even want to see them there.
It's amazing the intensity and self importance of the immature of all ages.
They ignore the question to demonstrate how much more clever they are.
Lost on them is the certainty that they are also demonstrating their ignorance.
Those are imbeciles who join Free Republic to mine for email addresses they can abuse.
It's frowned upon, but apparently there must be no way for Free Republic to identify (and ban) the morons.
I have had a Yahoo account since 1997 and I remember the opt out thing. But I am on my phone and don’t have it. Yahoo is my domain provider, too. During the Russian spam attack I had 10,000 emails in my spam folder and hundreds that got past the filter. If you don’t want ads, clear your cache and coolies and flash folders regularly. I’ll send you the links for that tomorrow if things go well.

I was opted out on my desktop and then saw the same information as you provided in your post.
It seemed to indicate that the “opt-out” was computer-specific. That is, it only worked on the computer that you opted-out on [via cookie].
I tested this theory by logging in on my laptop - I was “OPTED-IN”. This verified that you have to “opt-out” on ANY computer that you use.
I then TRIED to find the “persistent opt-out” function in my Yahoo account. Yahoo seems to have hidden it VERY well.
That is why I posted this thread - I need help finding the “persistent opt-out” ...
