Vanity, looking for opinions.
We've loved the 4 runner and it has been reliable, but gas mileage is awful, and we just don't need another 4 Runner because Mr. MM&I has a BIG Ford truck now so no need to load up the next car with heavy loads (we were always amazed at the amount of building supplies, etc that would fit in the 4 Runner.)
We're Empty Nesters, not a lot of travel, short commute to work. When the 2014's come out we're looking for a 2013 or 2012, with under 25,000 miles. Want one of the smaller SUV's cause we still need to haul the dog (big dog) around, and like some cargo room. The husband likes the AWD, so even on the Honda we'd get an AWD, He also believes Subaru AWD is far superior to Honda's. So anyone have any strong opinions on which is better, or another car in that class we should be looking at.
Get a diesel Suburban.
We always check Edmunds Used Car ratings but have a preference for Honda. Would stay away from the 2013 if it the first year of a new model change. Had success getting one turned in from a lease agreement.
With or without the rainbow sticker on the Subuaru?
You can use it to garage the CR-V.
Haha...I think it’s the Outback that gets the rainbow sticker. True Story...our son needed a car when he was 16 to go back and forth to the community college. We bought an older Outback, and that car was one of the most reliable cars we ever owned (also drove it till we die.) It wasn’t until later we were informed of the stigma.
I wouldn’t mind another Outback, but they’re overpriced.
Have a friend who has a CR-V and he loves it. He’s a technology geek and is impressed with the selection of ride stiffness and other gizmos on the car. Gets great gas mileage. Manual transmission.
I’ve ridden with him a couple of times and even with the ride set on soft, the car rides rougher than my Silverado pickup.

I have a 15 year old subaru and love it, but I just heard something bad about the new subaru wagons. My coworker has one that is two years old and the head light went out. Evidently to replace the headlight you have to go in through the wheel well after first removing a buttload of screws to get the wheel well panel out. After looking at the complexity of the operation he called the local subaru dealership who said they would do it under their warranty. Out of warranty it would cost $300.
My family has had two CRV’s with great success. Very nice car.
The Subaru comes factory equipped with a Coexist sticker as well as the red, white and blue Obama logo and either a save the whales or a free Tibet bumper sticker.
Just been car shopping.
Between those two I would go for the Subaru if it snows where you live.
The New Foorester is nice but based on your planned usage you might look at the XV Crosstrek. We have one and absolutely love it. Great Gas mileage and AWD. If you order it in Premium trim (vs Limited) with the CVT trans ($22995.00), Moonroof ($1000.00), and Option Package #1 you will have a MSRP of around 25K. I got mine for $500 over invoice.
The Crosstrek is a winner. Subaru nailed it. Do yourself a favor and test drive one.
Was in a bad accident in a 1 month old 2012 Honda CR-V..............traveling 50 mph on hwy and was hit by a car going full speed right threw a red light at an intersection crossing....needless to say, I was thankful for all the safety features on the CR-V because we all walked (very slowly I might add) away with just a few injuries. ALWAYS look at the safety ratings of any car you might think about purchasing :)
Then we’d have 2 BIG vehicles.
My new car of choice is the 2014 Subaru Forester... Love that car
Ignore the lesbo references. That seems to be regional to the NE and NW. Never saw any connection to Subarus in SoCal or in Hawaii, and there are plenty of lesbos in Kona.
We have a CR-V (2009) and we love it. Plenty of room for the 2 of us.
Because both of us are short, the visibility out the rear window, side and in the rear view mirrors was better in the Honda.
On the other hand, a Subaru kept my daughter alive when a semi tried to change lanes beside her. She was able to drive it away from the accident.
I’ve been to Edmunds, they’re pretty even in ratings...CRV’s are more aesthetic and comfortable, Subaru’s more utilitarian.
Basically comes down to preference, and we really don’t have one.
Wait until the Jeep Wrangler gets a Turbo-Diesel.
Thanks
