I need to know if this tin wrapped around the tree is going to attract lightening.
I put it up so the cats cannot climb it. It is a VERY tall palm tree. I plan on putting another one around the tree next to it....unless it draws lightening. Can someone tell me if it does?

I know this isn’t news to you by now, but there isn’t a chance in heck that’s going to draw lightning.

There’s an unshielded tree right next to the shielded tree. If a cat wants to get a creature, he’ll just climb the unshielded tree and jump over. He’s sure-footed, confident, and he has claws. Even if he loses his footing and falls out of the tree, he won’t be fazed because they always land on their feet unhurt. He’ll just climb back up and get that bird or squirrel’s nest, or whatever you’re trying to keep them from getting. You wasted your time and money on that tree wrap.

If it’s a camera pointed at your home, report it.

Now why in the world would you prevent squirrels and snakes from going up a tree? That’s what they do!

“anything else to use....any suggestions?”
Wrap fly paper around it.
The metal increases lightening possibility slightly- rain will wet the bark and ground it.
But not much, not significantly IMO.

Just that palm tree being the highest object around is more of an attractor than anything. It is one big lightning rod in and of its ownsome.

You know, just over a year ago, my car was parked next to a palm tree. The palm tree was hit....the lightening spread UNDER my car and back into my hubcap. It fried my car. They showed me the small ‘bullet’ hole where the lightening entered.

You might try going to PetSmart and buy a couple dog surgical collars. They are shaped like cones that you could mount around the tree trunks.

nope. in most states, street cameras pointed at streets and sidewalks are legal because it is public. your home and yard are not public. check local laws.
