The Boy Scouts of America will likely continue banning atheists and other non-believers from their troops, even though it now accepts openly gay members among its ranks.
"I don't see that happening, at least not in the immediate future," said Neil Polzin, an Eagle Scout fired from his job in 2009 as a Boy Scout camp aquatics director, after he admitted he is an atheist.
"The focus has always been on the Scouts' discrimination against gays and it seems atheists were always on a back burner or not discussed at all," Polzin told The Christian Century.
Since May 23, when the Scouts voted to allow gay members – but not troop leaders – among their ranks, major organizations for nonbelievers have condemned their continuing exclusion from the organization.
Part of the Scouting oath is to "do my duty to God and my country," which many atheists prefer be changed to "good and my country," a request the BSA has refused.
In addition, some atheist children have been asked to leave troops after it was revealed they did not believe in God. There have been lawsuits filed, but the Supreme Court has ruled that the Boy Scouts is a private organization that can make its own membership rules.

The Creator is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and in the motto of the BSA is “morally straight”. Nothing will change these facts.
It’ll change when the atheist lobby gets as big and powerful as the gay lobby. Pretty simple.
I fell pretty sad about this. One of my nephews is a scoutmaster through his RC Church and is working this weekend with his son to complete the son’s Eagle Scout project. They are totally into the whole Scout program as it’ been for generations. I don’t know where folks like that go from here.

Yesterday I attended Eagle Scout of Honor and so glad I did. My faith in “the organization” has been renewed and strengthened. Of course, this was predominantly a LDS event. Looks like the BSA will survive and thrive thanks to the LDS Church. Hooray! “Morally straight!”
The LDS Church has been at the forefront of the BSA since its inception. I am proud of their unwavering support which has kept the BSA strong and “morally straight”. Let the other churches abandon the Boy Scouts. Let those who disagree with the new rule leave in droves. There The LDS Church will be, strong and safe and “morally straight” to guide boys down the STRAIGHT and narrow path.

Ah yes, the same religion which on the one hand fights to stop homo marriage in California while on the other hand welcomes homos into the ‘church’ and The Boy Scout Troops that ‘church’ manages. Such dichotomous reality is a hallmark of those who believe a conman’s fanciful tales of meeting God The Father and Jesus ina mushroom grove and golden plates which vanish if looked for. Sadly, this magic thinking which is hallmark of MormonISM is now sacrificing young boys tot he homo agenda in order to appear ‘tolerant of others’. A straight and narrow path in MormonISM is as crook as a dog’s hind leg, as proven by studying their History.

The adults stepped in a made it about themselves and killed it for the youth. First the women did it to the girls and not the men did it to the boys. I hope God makes them pay. It is not my call.
