ABC7 has confirmed the regions two military hospitals are furloughing more than 3,500 civilian employees who care for the nations wounded warriors, nearly their entire civilian staffs.
The impacted employees are from departments across the board at both hospitals, including members of the trauma team, physical therapists and nurses. They will be forced to take 11 unpaid furlough days starting in July.
Hospital officials say the furloughs affect 2,392 caregivers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda. Thats 94% of the civilian staff there.
Officials say 1,163 caregivers at Fort Belvoirs hospital in Virginia are being furloughed, affecting 85% of its civilian staff.
Officials promise patient care will not be compromised.
The assessment of over 2,500 civilian positions determined that 163 staff exemptions were necessary to maintain the highest levels of care for warrior inpatients and outpatients in rehabilitation and other critical areas, Walter Reed said in a statement. Fortunately, our wounded warrior census is significantly lower than experienced during the peak wartime period, yet our staffing remains consistent with peak levels.
Another Friday news dump.
IBTP
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
OK. I have been here a while. I know IBTZ (in before the zot). What the heck is IBTP?
The letters went out to Army civilian employees on Thursday. Of course some here will say that it is about time those Army civilians got their ‘just due.’ I’m not one of them. Political obstantcy by bh0 is cause.
In Before The Ping?
It’s not just Walter Reed. Other military hospitals are furloughing their civilian workers, too.
Think Obama cares? These are heroes who the Rats disenfranchise from the get go.
If he can’t get the death panels up and running, he’ll merely deprive you of health care. Smells the same as the government’s buy up of ammo. What’s next?
AF got theirs this week also. The few clowns who voted for BO are keeping their pie holes shut. A few months ago they were bragging that it would never happen.
They’ll do anything to avoid laying off government teachers, building inspectors, social workers and the like.
Referring only to building inspectors in the middle of nowhere, with no population, no building happening, etc. And planners.
God forbid the Won should cut back spending on something vital, like foreign aid to the muslim brotherhood in Egypt or al Qaeda in Syria, our new allies
Sure, why should we care for our wounded troops? After all, they’ve been shooting up Hussein’s buddies.
The commissaries are going to be closed on Mondays too, so plan your shopping.
In Before The Ping. (And I was.)
yet they can stick in $7 K rubber speed bumps in 5 mph parking lots by the gross. They hit our commissary and Exchange last year. Must have been over 2 dozen of the suckers put in, I know my back feels each one and it hurts. Our hospital closed entirely when the base went from Training to BUPERS. Now only Military personell, not their families though can use a few doctors they retained on base. Rest are left to civie docs who are not accountable for their bad practices except you stop using them after they have damaged your body.
