Yesterday evening (Wednesday 29 May 2013) Mark Levin took a call just before the end of show that contained a great comment by The Great One.
His caller was talking about Benghazi and the other Obama scandals, and was criticizing John Boehner for not appointing a special prosecutor. Mark Levin corrected him immediately:
"No, no... he can't appoint a special prosecutor. He can call for one, but [the problem is] he's not appointing a special investigative committee."The caller then went on to say he thought the reason for the low-energy responses of the House Republicans had to do with the effect of "money and influence."
At that point, the Great One let loose with a short speech that encapsulated something I've been thinking for weeks if not months:
I'm not sure this has anything to do with money and influence. I think he's ... ah... I think he's weak. I think he doesn't... you know... he's more than happy to talk about this, he's more than happy to hold press conferences about this... but he actually doesn't want to get much done. That's the problem. Thank you for your call my friend. And this is the problem with the Republicans across the board. They'll introduce something... but they're really not serious about it... they have the power of the purse in the house, but they almost never use it. It's pathetic.
I can assure you if the Democrats were in our position, and we were in their position, they'd be unleashing all kinds of havoc, and affecting the agenda in ways that the current Republican leadership is incapable of.
I don't understand why the House Republicans don't have a staff of people researching back through the histories of the major Republican scandals (Watergate, Iran-Contra, Valerie Plame, etc.) to get ideas about all the ways the Democrats used those scandals to derail Republican agendas and substitute their own. Why isn't this being done?
In many ways, the House is a better side of Congress to hold than the Senate. When the Democrats hold the House, they use the Power of the Purse against us at every turn. I don't think Boehner has used this extraordinary power even once, so far as I'm aware.
Another possibility not mentioned: blackmail.
Yeah. If they can have it on Roberts, they can have it on anyone.
GOP-e = spineless Progressive Lite.....or maybe they are receiving their ‘cut’.
You are correct, sir.
The House has had this administration’s head practically handed to them and except for a few notable exceptions they have done very little with it.
I don’t know if they think the press is going to help them like the press helped the dumbles or what but it ain’t happenin!
The only thing that will happen is they appear diffused and unfocused and could easily LOSE their majority in 2014 if they do not get mean ugly and fiesty RIGHT NOW! Zero is out there trying his damdest to get NaziP relected speaker. Conservatives better be up on back legs with sharpened claws rippin him a new one.
They should be hammering zero and his insane clown posse each and every day.
Gloves OFF, knives OUT!
Absolutely! Directly related: Obama: I Could Not Be More Anxious To Have Pelosi Back As Speaker
And that's why we can't let that happen. If that DOES happen, the USA ends. Just that simple. Final nail in the coffin, we will put Europe to shame, etc.
I think it has more to do with the gopE’s distain for anything Tea Party/conservative related. They (Boehner et al) don’t really give a crap if the Tea Party sputters out and could very well be coconspirators in the efforts to suppress. The establishment needs dismantled but unfortunately is still a majority (reelected the Speaker).
I’ve always thought Boehner was a little reluctant to beat up on his buddies on the Left. It’s been said that when he was in the minority, he hobnobbed with a lot of dems - playing pool, partly because they were smokers too.
If that’s true, it may be the reason he’s still hesitant.
However, his reluctance to take these dem scandals head on .. can be the difference between Liberty or Tyranny.
They don’t come more worthless than Boehner.
He and Cantor ensure the Republican House will be completely ineffective. And until enough Republican House members get the courage to vote them out, nothing will change.
thanks, for the post.
That is what I keep thinking, they are also afraid of the IRS and who knows who else.
No. Counter to popular opinion here the house leadership has been playing this just right. I know the flame throwers here want Bonier to go punch the Obama...whatever. The best strategy is to draaaaaag this out. Drip ...drip...drip..
It will torment the librel media and give Obama a thousand cuts. Wins the Senate and stops Obama’s crazy agendain it’s tracks.
I don't think I'm acting as a flamethrower if I simply point out that the Democrats play politics with every aspect of a scandal when that scandal reflects badly on our side. We - on the other hand - play pitty-pat, conform to Robert's Rules of Order, are careful not to pile on, etc.
If we "drag this out" as you suggest, it is our side that will die the death of a thousand cuts.
I mean, by all means make sure the timing is kept on track so that this the big headlines are breaking in the fall of 2014. But I was around and paying attention during Watergate. Many of the big revelations - including the White House tape system, G. Gordon Liddy, Donald Segretti, and many others - came to light in 1973, not in the federal election year of 1974.
No. Counter to popular opinion here the house leadership has been playing this just right
Yeah, that drag it out tip toe strategy worked great in 2012. Why are you asking for more beltway GOP loser strategy?
There was no time in 2012. The msm was covering for Obama..
So what would you have congress do differently now?
Precisely why I will not be supporting ANY Republican at the national level in future elections. We as a country are in serious trouble because come 2014 the republican party will likely be wiped out for good.
I will keep an open mind to change my position but ONLY if I see real results from Republicans. Results being defined by real prosecutions and JAIL TIME for those responsible for the crimes of the IRS. Real accountability and prosecutions for the cover up of Benghazi. Apologies and resignations are NOT an appropriate remedy for these types of crimes. The perpetrators must go to jail.
best cure for blackmail is to come forth.
There was no time? Boehner & McConnell punted for the entire two years after the Tea Party victory of 2010. There was ALWAYS a good reason not to engage the Dems. That’s the problem.
Right now Boehner needs to be planning an overall strategy for the various committees and managing the message. When there is significant testimony he needs to amplify it and drag the WH into this. He is still terrified to engage the kenyan directly. If the obomber is allowed to stay above the fray the GOP will lose AGAIN in 2014.
The Senate should be in play and if the beltway GOP keep this tip toe strategy up it won’t be.
The Republicans do not have the services of the media as willing co-conspirators with which to keep things stirred up against the libs. That is the main reason the shoe is not fitting the other foot and Levin’s comments are not complete without recognizing that fact. There’s no doubt that Boehner is just weak sauce as a Speaker but it’s more than just that, IMO.
