Laura Ingraham said it so succinctly: “Shut up and sing!”
Slightly tangential to your comment - I took my mom to a concert featuring a couple of 60’s singers (Chad & Jeremy). All we wanted to do was hear some old tunes.
These two klowns came out and immediately launched into lengthy ramblings instead of playing their music. It wasn’t hard to see that they were totally infatuated with themselves (does anyone even remember them?!).
After an intermission they came back on and started talking politics (this was right before the 2012 election) and mostly slamming Romney and anyone right of center. At one point I got irritated and shouted out “Shut up and sing!” - to which I was resoundingly booed by the audience.
Later I apologized to my Mom for embarrassing her in public, to which she replied, “Nonsense, someone needed to tell them to shut the hell up!”
That’s my take too. It’s just idiotic. Perhaps the audiences these days like politics, and should simply pay to hear these folks rant instead of sing.
