The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Hi All, it’s a beautiful weekend in Baltimore. Hope you’re well and happy.

Wishing you a happy Memorial Day and remembering our finest who serve, served, and those real men who gave all.

I’m liking the lineup tonight: love Phil Harris shows, a couple good detective stories, and then a Lux with the unique paring of Claude Rains and Shirley Temple. Interesting.

I’ve got an early dinner to go to but will be back as soon as possible...and will be listening...

While I think this stuff would be fun to listen to...it seems to me this is NPR candy...they offer just enough fun programing to keep some conservatives from demanding their defunding.

Eighty percent of NPR is pure socialist propaganda. They keep getting by with the twenty percent.

No more.

This does not keep conservatives from demanding NPR’s defunding (not many people are even aware of this program). And, the Big Broadcast is a rare, lone exception to their normally leftist programming.

This thread is not a support for NPR. This thread is about old-time radio shows and our love for them. We don’t like that the show is carried on NPR, but that’s just the way it is. It does not dampen our enthusiasm for Ed Walker’s Big Broadcast.

Excellent price for the charcoal! We’ll have to grab some while it’s on sale.

Do you have the briskets cut small, or are they already packaged that way? I see briskets here that are like 20 or more pounds! Big ol’ things!

We’re smoking the usual Boston butt with brown sugar and apple juice. Low and slow...

Oh, also...

Vision, Keith got his Mom a Grace Audio Mondo Internet radio. We had it delivered to our house, and he’s programming it to take to his Mom’s tomorrow.

This thing is the bomb! I want one! Keith is putting the old time radio shows and music channels on the presets for her (the same stuff we love). Do you have any suggestions? He already added Antioch and the 1920s Radio Network plus WAMU for the Big Broadcast. What else do you have on yours?

Yes, this is the greatest radio ever. On mine I have the local AM/FM channels, antioch, kbrd (old music), wamu, wavs (a Caribbean station in miami), wxqr (nyc classical radio), and WWUS (key west radio).

On stream I have some Italian stations, 1920’s network, bbq central (bbq radio).
