What annoys me the most regarding foot on the bag, are the double plays that are clearly wrong because of bogus foot dragging, but the runner is so late that “in a real world” he’d be out anyway, when in actuality, he was safe, because the dragged foor did not touch the bag. I have seen waaaay too many “outs” at second wrongfully called on double plays.

However, as the play happened, the scoring should have been 3-6-1. And the batter should have been safe (both because the first baseman didn't have the ball, and because his foot came off the base).
IMO...

I watched it live, too.
Seattle announcers moaned the remainder of the game about that plan.
{snicker}
Had the KC game on for a few minutes earlier this afternoon. Gertz or Getz for KC got called out at 1st. He argued with the ref and got thrown out. Replay showed he should probably have been called safe.

Regardless of the sport, it seems the refs are atrocious any more.
Many complained about the sub refs in the NFL last year. When the regular refs returns, their wrong calls were not much better.

I believe the actual rule book allows for ‘vicinity’ outs (at least at 2nd under certain conditions) for safety reasons.

I recall hearing an announcer explain that there is some new (?) rule that the player does not have to touch 2nd base for the runner to be called out. IIRC, it is something about assuming him out so as to avoid collisions and player injuries.
I don't know whether that applies to 3rd as well.
