I heard how bad waterworld was. When I finally watched it I liked it and watch it when I see it playing. Kind of a mad max on water. I guess movies are like types of food, what you like I may not and Vice-versa.

However, Ishtar and Battlefield Earth are just plain terribly bad horribly made movies. It looks like Heaven’s gate was too. To use the car analogy: more on the scale of a Cummins diesel Oldsmobile. It was always best avoided at any price over the scrap metal value. ;-)
In fact, to paraphrase:
Waterworld and Postman = VW Phaton - VW lost a bundle but a lot of people got a great car for far less than it cost to make.
Battlefield Earth and Heaven’s Gate = Oldsmobile diesel car - for anyone who touched it, it left a mark.
The problem Waterworld had is it was written to be Mad Max on water, a low budget action movie. The Kevin Costner got his hands on it, filmed in the ocean (even after Spielberg warned that would be a huge mistake), and spent $175 million bucks making it. If you watch it as a low budget Mad Max on water it’s a fine little movie. $175 million is supposed to buy more than an Mad Max ripoff though.
