We still have inflatable tanks...the acronymn was BATV...don’t remember what it stands for. They now come with a generator and a heating device, to give them a thermal signature.

In an neat coincidence, right now I’m watching my local public TV station which is running a show about the army’s WWII 603rd Camouflage Engineers.

The deception was far more elaborate that this brief decription . It also included a body loaded with secret documents winding up on a seacoast controlled by the Nazis.Phoney radio transmissions between units etc as the Germans bought into but never questioned returing recon aircrraft loaded with pics.Which could have been easily shot down.

In the spirit of military achievements mentioned in this article and upcoming Memorial Day, I would suggest watching "Still the Drums", a 5 award winning Independent film production about 4 Vietnam Vets with one a Medal of Honor recipient. I found it quite powerful and will be sharing my copy of the DVD with some of my friends from that era.

There was a somewhat similar effort on the West Coast of the U.S. during the war. Fearing the possibility of Japanese planes reaching the West Coast, the Hollywood special effects departments camouflaged the rooftops of defense plants so that, from the air, it would look like you were flying over housing developments, wooded areas, or farmland.

The Man Who Hoodwinked Hitler - BBC Documentary Nine Part series on the topic of the allied misinformation campaign that included inflatable tanks, planes as discussed in this thread. The best part is you aren't beholden to PBS' schedule.
