Word For The Day, Monday, 5/20/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
fractious; adj.
1. refractory or unruly: a fractious animal that would not submit to the harness. 2. readily angered; peevish; irritable; quarrelsome: an incorrigibly fractious young man.
Etymology: fractious
1725, from fraction in an obsolete sense of "brawling, discord" + -ous; probably on model of captious. Related: Fractiousness
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
On the IRS, Barry got fractious
Told a tale that was pure lying sack-tious
“On the news, how I heard”
Well we know that’s absurd
When there’s evidence, he’ll get retractious
Catherine Engelbrecht is a true hero. As such she deserves the Medal of Freedom. Of course, I don’t see that happening any time soon. Perhaps there is a high honor that the TX legislature can award her.
I think that it is interesting that she lives in Fort Bend County. (I lived there 10 years.) Ft. Bend is also the home of Tom Delay and is considered a Republican County now (wasn’t always that way). It alwo is part of Ron Paul’s former district. It think that it is propitious that a Democrat (Ted Poe) is defending her.

I think I see a potential WFTD in there. ;)
A++++ yeah, he’s just a regular dude reading this stuff in the paper and seeing it on the news, that’s believable RME.
site is down, what’s it about?
My daughter (a teacher) sent this article to me today with the attached seniment: “This story made it to my Facebook feed today and made me very sad. Our students and our children deserve better than this a national disgrace.”

Even though the article is a couple of years old, I’ll bet this is still going on. Anybody who has kids in school, or who are caught in the college application racket, should take note. Seems to me that the kids are graded more on form than on content.
Remember Bill Clinton claiming he learned about one of his scandals in the morning’s Washington Post?
The site is about a 15 year old girl who has decided that the Holacaust is a Holahoax through her “research”. I think she won some kind of award for her work, but the site went down while I was reading it, so I can’t be sure. I think you can blame the WFTD folks at FR for knocking it out! ;-)
yeah another credible guy! are you back home/at work after your foray to the Nation’s capital?
oh for heaven’s sake.
BTW, the VA state repub convention was open-carry. one of xsbaby’s friends was open carrying on site.
I was home Saturday, but am now in Houston for the week.
Surprised that the Metro trains did not have pre-recorded announcements. And that they weren’t bilingual. Just had someone murmuring into the microphone.
this train DO go to Ballston...
I don’t use babytalk even to babies. It’s unprofessional. I don’t like people doing it around me either. One of my colleagues babytalks to her spouse and I roll my eyes every time and am so tempted to say were you talking to a baby just now?
