Well it won’t get any better, and don’t get too attached to any character.

The world depicted in the series is kind of a medieval world without Christianity, with a little fantasy and magic thrown in. So far, it seems like a dark world, a Dark Ages, darker than the so-called Dark Ages of real history.

You got that right. I have read all of the books he has written thus far... He kills off nearly EVERY stinking character I cared about. Nearly all of the half way morally, decent, upright characters in the story line dies! Sorry for the "spoilers" but a word of warning... don't get emotionally attached to ANYONE because the author seems to take special relish in killing them! While I like his writing... it is infuriating because what we are left with are in point of fact is, as another Freepers so aptly put it is "a bunch of amoral, evil, power-hungry a-- holes trying to kill each other for the right to sit on the most uncomfortable and homely "throne" I have ever seen.
One more thing... the author took ten years to complete the 5th book and the convoluted story is nowhere near done. Given how far along the HBO series is and how quickly they are moving through the books, the series will be over before the author completes the story in book form. I see this creating a massive problem, unless the author forgets writing the books because they take him so long, and concentrates his efforts to completing the story via the HBO series and then he goes back and spends another 20 years penning the novels... Unless he dies and leaves the book series unfinished and incomplete.
