A Nova Scotia school is causing controversy after deciding to stop celebrating Mothers Day and Fathers Day, instead opting to recognize the International Day of Families instead.
The Dartmouth elementary school said it is aiming to celebrate diversity and inclusivity while avoiding making children who are part of non-traditional families feel left out.

GEESH!
I understand they dropped the celebration of Father’s Day a long time ago in Harlem.
A shame that.....
Funny how they call it “International Families Day” while being completely against the traditional family.
Oh how the minority is coddled at the expense of the majority. Oh the humanity or the agenda under the cover of..............
Like the annual dustups over Christmas, Easter, and Hallowe’en, this fluster is the result of families’ having outsourced what should have been their own social functions to the government schools.
You are among the few who "get it".
1) Schooling can not be religiously, politically, or culturally neutral. Such a state can not exist in the mind of a sentient human. Therefore, when there are government schools, it is inevitable that lobbying blocks of citizens form in an effort to **force** their non-neutral worldview onto the hearts and minds of other people's children.
2) If education were privately delivered the problem of children who do not fit into the dominate pattern, regardless of the issue, would be handled by parents and any teachers ( if any) chosen by the parents.
3) As for this particular issue, if generations of children are subjected to socialist-entitlement and GODLESS ( or religiously lukewarm) education the community should not be surprised when LOTS of family dysfunction emerges.
Seems like an oxymoron, b/c kids of gheys *know* they don’t have a traditional family...so calling it *Family Day* is a back-handed slap...IMO.
When it comes to socialist-entitlement and single payer schooling, the biggest and most politically powerful gets to run the show.
That is what socialism is.
If that worked for 2A issues, [especially in Connecticut] I would agree. :)
For "schools," you could also substitute "medical care," "social welfare," "employment," and other social arrangments. People have different ideas of "the good." In a free society, each one can pursue his own perceived benefit, at his own expense. He can voluntarily associate with others who share his concepts.
This is the only just arrangment.
They’re against nature. Thousands of years of evolution produced sexual reproduction, with a father and a mother. This is an indisputable fact.
Liberalism is against nature.
The schools in the hood will still celebrate Mutha’s Day. But remember that Mutha in the hood is half a word.
Davey and Goliath tackled the whole Father & Son something tournament with a kid who didn't have a Dad. Even a 5-year-old could understand. Educrats, not so much. Unless they're spoon-feeding propaganda that no one believes.
Diversity is the new racism
It is amazing, even here on Free Republic, how many fail to understand that government owned and run schooling is the very definition of a compulsory, socialist-entitlement ,and single payer program. Even if school districts were the size of a suburban housing division it is an abomination for one neighbor to impose his worldview on another family’s child and place others under police threat to pay for it.
as a young girl traumatized by the death of my father when I was 10, I was certainly glad that Fathers’ Day was after school let out.
I agree with those that do not see the need to institutionalize these celebrations. There are too many exceptions to the nuclear family, some having nothing to do with personal choices.
One more thing:
In a few generations we will have a nation of citizens who will be soooooo conditioned by Obamacare that it will be impossible for them to imagine a world without it. And...All the arguments seen here to defend or reform socialist-entitlement and single-payer schooling will be used to defend or reform socialist-entitlement medicine.
** We need to run conservatives for the comrade health board.
** We need to return health care to local control.
** We need to increase spending.
** We need to encourage our smartest young people to go into medicine ( because by then only the dumbest will choose medicine as a profession.)
** We need more patient ( parent) autonomy in health care decisions.
** Privatize? If we don't have socialist-medicine people will die in the streets like they did in the 20th century!
With socialist-entitlement K-12 schooling, the voting mob imposes its worldview on other people's children and forces everyone to pay for this cruelty.
