Word For The Day, Monday, 5/13/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
lymphatic; adj.
1. of, relating to, or containing lymph: the lymphatic vessels 2. of or relating to the lymphatic system 3. sluggish or lacking vigour
Etymology: 1640s, from L. lymphaticus, from lympha (see lymph). Also sometimes used in the classical L. sense "mad, frenzied."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
knew before clicking it would be her. A+++ I also read she may be on the way out of CBS.
Like a cancer that starts with lymphatic
The socialists’ spread is emphatic
Mr. Marx started small
But may soon rule it all
With Obama’s “success” so dramatic
right under you ; )
perfect! A++++
Maybe we could get her at Fox and get rid of the doofus Juan Williams. He annoys me to no end. He’s not very bright and ogles the women constantly.
Hey Neo. How’s it going? Good weekend?
I’ve only seen it on the Hallmark Movie Channel. Last week when I looked it up, opinions were mixed on it. This week, all of the entries seem to LOVE this commercial and this song. I haven’t changed my opionion, however.
I lived in TX when a doctor deliberately crashed his car into a bridge abutment in an attempt to kill his 2nd wife. (He’d already killed his 1st wife, and he was afraid that the 2nd wife was going to rat him out.) When the crash didn’t kill her, he tried to inject her with something to speed the process, but was unsuccesful.
I guess what disturbs me about the song is the attitude that this girl’s happiness should depend upon whether some unidentified person is “there”, so she acts out by engaging in a reckless act. Or, she just runs out and purchases dangerous shoes! Whatever. I just can imagine impressionable teens unconsiously following the recipe for attention.
And what in the world does it have to do with shoes?
i pray that the families get answers, but it will take the press to bring sufficient pressure to bear and so holding one’s breath for that is risky.
He looks like a Zoot Suiter in that new pin stripe suit he was sporting this weekend. Definitely a mobster look.
i guess i can’t get worked up about it, because while kids are impressionable, i can’t imagine anyone thinking crashing a car into an abutment is fun and something they should do. song lyrics are rife with insidious suggestions of what is normal and acceptable and fun, that are far more likely to color a teens perception and cause them to emulate it— and they mostly involve rampant sexual promiscuity. i play songpop on my iphone and the Today’s hits category is full of those type of songs.
did you just see the commercial, and then google the lyrics, or is there a crusade against this particular song out there on the internets?
Going well. Thanks. How about you?
The song is dumb-I’ve never heard it or seen any shoedazzle commercials-I don’t watch the Hallmark channel, though.
Just me. Although, the first time I googled the song, there was at least one complaint. However, the entries LAUDING this stupid song far outnumbered the complaints.
The interesting thing is that LAST week, I had to register my computer and assure the powers that be that I was of age to view the commercial because the content was deemed to be unacceptable for underage consumers.
We have teenagers crashing into bridges and trees all the time around here (Wisconsin). Mostly drunk driving. Mostly the teens are dead afterwards, so we never know why the car crashed.
This song comes from a Swedish group — a population noted for depression, suicide, drug use, and alcohol use, as well as promiscuity. I don’t think these are activities we want our teens to emulate.
I am further agitated because it is so difficult to lodge a complaint with Hallmark Channel. I never would have expected this from a “family friendly” corporation.
While there are dozens of web address and phone numbers for Hallmark, they all lead to placing an order, or reviewing their “already prepared” FAQ pages. They don’t really seem to want input from the public.
I got a person on the phone today, and she connected me to a line (not a person) where I could record a message (which they stated up front would NOT be answered) where my complaint went down a memory hole.
I was also given a web address where I have to agree to a long terms of agreement statement and register before I can post anything. I’ve registered at this site 3 times, and don’t have approval to post yet.
I would expect this kind of treatment from the DNC, but not Hallmark.
Other Shoe Dazzle Commercials have been recorded by the Kardashians! Consider the source.
It is 58 and sunny-it rained over the weekend, and more rain is supposed to come Tuesday-there are white rain lilies blooming all over the open areas in the woods, it was a lovely morning to hike...
The overconfident Obama staff
Has been lymphatic so long
They didn’t see a problem
Until the smell got strong
Now, the fabric is unraveling
As the IRS gets many a mention-
And their reputation for misuse
Is guaranteed to get attention
The escalating scandals can’t
Be contained, or made elusive-
And some of the driveby media
Are panting for an exclusive...
I do so love the smell of scandal in the morning-don’t you?
I guess a lymphatic economy that simply limps along is now the norm & no longer a priority....
I think they rejected the weiner in favor of something entirely different.
